:) I have a dustpan which was given to my parents as part of a selection of cleaning implements as a wedding gift in the early 1960s. Bygorry, Ad d is knew how to make plastics.........:rotfl:

My Aunt has a broom which lives outside in her back garden leaning agains the wall. It is very very old, entirely made of wood with natural bristles. Well, it has a couple of clumps of natural bristles remaining, the rest is bald.

I asked her why she kept this near-useless broom, when she has several others in better nick, including yard brooms and house brooms. Her answer was that no one would steal it.

She lives in a village, surrounded by relatives in nearby houses, everyone knows everyone and it's not exactly a hotbed of crime. Folks mostly don't bother even locking their doors.

Auntie, if no one would steal it, it might be because it's good for nothing but the bonfire.....:rotfl:

My Mum has pictures in the older family albums which include a couple of chaps who lodged with Grandma in the 1950s and the then-next-door-neighbour's dog. I actually know the name of that animal, for goodness sake, and it died about 15 years before I was born and it wasn't even owned by our family.

 Address books, there's a thing. I have tried a number of times over the years to get Mum to consolidate her various ones into one current one. The oldest address book is actually my late Grandma's who passed from this vale of tears in 1970 at almost 80. Plenty of the people in there were of similar vintage - none are presently actually alive, but hey, we know where they used to live!:p

Reminds me of a time a couple of years back when I came in from work to find a message from what sounded like an elderly lady. She obviously thought she was leaving it on Daphne's * answerphone and it was about someone's funeral.

Not wanting Daphne to miss a funeral, I made a courtesy call back to the lady, explaining that she'd made a mistake (I have had my landline number nearly 20 years, and knew the people who had it before me).

Blow me, instead of being grateful, she demanded to know where Daphne lived and was quite rude, almost as if I'd done away with the woman or summat.

Folks, keep your addresses and numbers up-to-date, or this could be any of us in a few years, and you might end up missing a funeral and a rollicking good wake as a result.:rotfl:

    * It wasn't actually Daphne, but something of that vintage I can no longer remember.

Well it's taken until middle of the afternoon for me to tackle the fridge. I only heat the office during the day so everytime I left it, I kept finding something else to do on the computer so I wouldn't have to move away from the warm! Went out eventually and took bag of carp, sorry lovely items, to the charity shop and bought myself a chocolate bar. That has been consumed as a reward for cleaning out the fridge once I got back in and turned the heating on early.

Amazon delivered my bookends earlier, so will unpack them and see if I can sort the recipe books on the kitchen trolley shortly.

Oh, I emailed pictures to OH earlier of his newly tidied tie drawers, he's very impressed!

:T I just rang 0800 671 444 and opted my address out of receiving another Yillow Piges. Took about 15 seconds.

Unfortunately for wastefulness, this happened after I got another one, which is in the recyling bin. Never use the blessed things and they don't even make it across the threshold these days.

    Result!

ETA; thinking again on unlabelled photos, I can see my Dad, and one of his second cousins, poring over a couple of photos of ladies in full Edwardian fig. No one knows who they are. They look a bit too well-dressed for our family's social station (or lack thereof) but could they have been XXXXX who was in service at the Big House? Considerable debates on whether their noses resemble one side of the family or not and other trivia. We're still none the wiser.

Anyone want a couple of Edwardian ladies, one in a big hat?

  • I can offer several pics of people on outdoor work projects... and I can't even blame these on elderly relatives, they're pictures I took on working holidays, most of whose names I have forgotten! If you did an NT working holiday in the 1990s, you may be on one of my snaps.

Addresses - I have everything in my phone nowadays. I carefully read through the two old address books I found, before ceremonially burning them. Divorced, Dead or Lost Touch for most of them. I can't bear to delete names from my phone when people have died however, so I have several entries with RIP against them. Am I weird or do others do this?

Igamogam I agree with the Party 7 thing maybe everyone had 6 people at their party back in the day and had a pint each ;)

I am sure in my deepest memory they also did Party 10s but maybe I am just wanting there to be a party 10 :D

Polly I also have people who are no longer here on my phone. Mine have Legend or something like that after the name :o I just cant bring myself to delete them either.

Photos :o We have photos from what I think is one of my Nans milestone Birthdays. She never had a good word to say about anyone and on the back of loads of these photos she has written 'Peggy big hat ' :rotfl:Which was what she called anyone who she thought has ideas above their station (which is a nice way of saying it)
So imagine a table with 4 ladies sitting on it with their Babychams in hand raising a toast to the Birthday Queen :rotfl:

It has written on the back Me, Peggy big hat, Peggy big hat.Carole.:rotfl::rotfl:

So I reckon 50% of people at that party were in her eyes a 'Peggy big hat' So someone tell me why she would invite them :D

Nowt as queer as folk ;)

It depends whether you smile or feel sad when you see it. I delete them, i don't need additional daily reminders of my sadness. The physical phone book is something i need to do - maybe i will type them up a page a day.

The freezer stocks are going down - i might even have to cook something soon ;) At a pinch i could do another weeks worth - but there might be a lot of meals with sausages :rotfl:

I walked into town the other day with my wally trolley as i had some light grocery shopping to do - not wanting to take it one way empty (apart from anything else, i thought it might lift off in the wind :rotfl:) so i tried to look for stuff to take to the chazzer - I COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING :T

(although typically, i have now found a couple of dvds and a book - oh and the trolley was taking off in the wind :p)
I wanna be in the room where it happens

As much as I like the idea of putting addresses etc in my phone, what if it gets lost, breaks etc? My address book stays put in a drawer so less likely to get lost etc. I think the fact my phone bust with my fav photo of girls when little might have warped my judgement on this.

In for a fun day today, little one was sick in the night. Big style. Didn't make it to the bathroom. Poor mite apologised for getting it everywhere .... least I know carpets will b clean!

I also delete people from my phone if they're dead - and also my facebook account. It's another form of 'clutter' to me so it goes (sounds harsh, I know) x

I have no addresses E or otherwise on my phone only phone numbers. I dont even keep them on the PC. I have a physical book which rarely comes out of the drawer if I am honest. OH has his life on his phone but he he also very good at backing up all the data on a regular basis, which I am not..........much to his irritation. I think it stems from always being able to carry all the info I needed around in my head - only started using a diary for work a few years ago when I realised a rest of life condition I have sometimes affects my memory:eek: so I decided I had to make room in my head for the important things ;)

My kondoing has not gone to plan this week and I am a bit down in the dumps about it TBH. Had a blazing row with OH about it last night which saw me sitting up until 2am filing bloody paperwork.........just to make my point. Yep I'm stubborn like that. During the last 12 months I have had a good long look at myself and have been able to be very rational about why I have built this barricade of clutter around me, and it is a barricade. What I cant do is bring myself to tell all this to OH at the moment as I think the truth maybe too painful and I really need a calm household over the next few months with very Important Exams looming for DD2. What I want to do is to be allowed to quietly get on with it until I feel I can do no more - I dont want to be judged or mocked or criticised or seen as a hopeless case BY ANYONE I just want to deal with the problem in my own way...........I may feel that a bit further down the line I will draft in help but for now I need to be allowed to get on with it. Hmmm dont usually wear my heart on my sleeve ..........maybe just a little tired after late night filing ;)
