If you stuck to this line of argument rather than going on about all women born in the 50s being uneducated and in low paid jobs, many people would be pretty well in agreement with you. Just as if WASPI ditched their ridiculous demands regarding the 1995 changes, most people would be in agreement with them.

I am sticking to this line but you and others keep doubting the low pay and lack of knowledge of the SPA changes. The #Waspi women can do as they wish as it's their campaign and you should respect that.

Ignorance is not just lack of knowledge.

I respect their right to campaign. I don't respect the campaign thought.
Ignorance is not just lack of knowledge.

I think you'll find it is!

    "ignorance
    [ig-ner-uh ns]
    noun

the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc."

We've been through this discussion several pages back.

I guess that's why Figgerty included 'just' in her statement (although I'm not sure who she's thinks is being 'ignorant' as per definition #2).

So you would be happy if young working people saw their income tax go up? Or VAT was increased? Or social services support to the elderly was cut back? Just so you can get your pension earlier than a man? Very fair!

I have never had children but my taxes over the years have gone towards paying for other peoples children. I have never been unemployed but my taxes paid for others, never to university -- etc. I did not complain about that, until you raised the issue. Also remember that many pensioners pay tax.

This would be righting the injustice of the 2011 Act.

Me too, but that's the nature of the civilised society in which we live.

    Indeed. I'm one of them!

    Re teachers' pay.
    Thank you.

"In 1974, teachers won a substantial pay rise after the Houghton Report. For a few years teachers felt reasonably well off but rampant inflation and government pay restraint ate away the gains. In the same year the school leaving age was raised to 16."

It was much easier for professional jobs to be assessed for equal pay but I'm sure there were some difficulties as well.

That is not the correct approach to the argument.

The government has to balance the budget according to need. Women were getting their pension at 60 for many years when those reaching pension age around now were paying NIC for this.

It has been stated many many many times that there is no dispute to equalisation. Figgerty has stated she does not dispute that either.

As many have said on here, including Figgerty, they agree the 2011 changes are unfair. So, in your own vein of 'fairness' to the young tax payers, elderly etc, you seem to be of the view that unfairness is ok at some level but not others!

Here's the thing - its either unfair or it is not. If the majority feel it is, then it is so. That does not mean they will change the rules but it does not change the consensus of opinion.

Me too (no children and never been unemployed) - but we don't have a say in where our taxes are spent.

    Me too.
I pay tax on my occupational pension and I will be taxed on my state pension (when I get it :)).

There is no injustice in the 2011 act except to the people who have to pay for it. Its unequal its discriminatory and its too expensive. This should have been introduced without any phasing what so ever along with the 1995 act.

People are living longer the benefit is unfunded and the costs as a result have rocketed This is not a small change benefits are payable for on average twice as long and the cost of the benefits have therefore doubled. Whether you knew about the changes is irrelevant they are unaffordable.

That was the only meaning that existed when we were young - using it as an insult or a synonym of rude is quite recent and something people have picked up from younger people in reality programmes and soaps.:D

I disagree. Calling someone an "ignorant pig" is older than I am. So not recent.

    Another definition of the word.
    Ignorant

    discourteous or rude.
    "this ignorant, pin-brained receptionist"
    synonyms:rude, impolite, ill-mannered, bad-mannered, unmannerly, ungracious, discourteous, insensitive, uncivil, ill-humoured, surly, sullen;
