Hello...I had a headache all day yesterday, not sure why. I'm drinking loads of water so can't be that.

My final bill came out yesterday, hooray! Can finally pay some money off the balance. Due to my headache I bought lunch, was doing so well! Ate leftovers for dinner but had to go tesco for the OHs, some more money I will be getting back!

Am planning to transfer £100 towards my halifax card tonight...can't wait! £411.05 left on paying interest! Am still planning on making the min payment at the end of the month tho.

Have also been asked by one of my friends to go to Paris for the weekend as her bday is coming up, have politely declined as I want to spend that money on getting down my debt. Keeping dave Ramsey's word in my mind, life like no one else now so you can live like no one else later! Will post once I have made the payment

I finally made the £100 payment I have been writing about for the last 12 days!!! It feels so good and I almost want to log in to see the balance(although I know it won't clear until the end of the week, possibly beginning of next week) am really hoping that I can make another payment once I get paid. Only a week and half to go...

Constantly thinking about spending has really got me focused on my goal. I have avoided the window shopping I usually do and have tried my hardest not to arrange any social nights out. One of my friends is having a bday and wants to go for a meal on the 23rd, I may just try and push it back so I don't have to go....is that bad?!

I've decided to resume my exercise once I have completed my exam, fingers crossed an all that!!!!

Plan to buy £20 worth of meat so will have £30 left over from the OH contribution and decided to transfer that to the card as well...this means once it's all cleared it should be around £381.05!! Yay it's coming down. Aiming to get to £300 by end of Jan!

Another positive, the OH got his full time job!! I tried to discuss giving extra money towards the house but he stormed off to bed! It doesn't make me feel good especially when I have paid for everything all the time we have been together. I hate feeling like I can't talk to him about money when we plan to buy a house together. How will that work!

  • Have just read your diary and think you are doing well staying so focused on clearing your debt. It will be so worth it to be debt free and have choices about what you do with your money.

Sounds like your oh is being very selfish regarding upping his contribution. If you have been paying all the bills for a while, his first thought on earning more money should at least to begin paying his fair share towards things. Hope you get it sorted out, as you say you cannot plan on getting a mortgage with someone unless they are willing to talk about the financial side of things.

As far as oh is concerned, he is being very selfish not wanting to contribute more to the household bills. Considering you have been paying for everything, his first thought should now be to pay his fair share at least.

Hope you get things sorted out. As you say it would be difficult to share a mortgage with someone if you can't have a discussion about your finances.

Money Whizz - thank you for stopping by. I agree with your comment about him being selfish. The thing is, this is probably sounding like an excuse, he has never lived on his own or had to pay bills. He moved straight out of his dad's house in to mine (which we now share) I have always paid all the bills because first he was at uni an then because he didn't work. He did contribute towards shopping etc but never the bills. It took me ages to convince him that bleach an toilet bloo are essential household items!! He simply thinks I am pocketing the money that he gives me! I wish. I am proud to say I earn more than him and can afford to pay my bills and pay down my debt at the same time but I still think he shud contribute towards the household etc

I think I'm so focused because I want my dream house and am so ashamed that I let myself put money, I could clearly afford on to cards! I think for me it was about not seeing my actual bank balance going down an ignoring the increasing balance on the cards, although I always paid min sometimes more. It's funny but I only realised that I'm still paying for Christmas 2014! I'm so glad I never put this Christmas on the card an that this year we are doing secret Santa.

Yesterday was obviously a good day in our household, apart from the avoidance discussion RE money. We celebrated with a takeaway for £10.50! Third one of the year, we are doing so well! I am constantly checking my account as there is only one week before I get paid from Monday so want to make at least another £50 payment before then. Fingers crossed no money spent this or next weekend. My friend is coming on Friday an has offered to bring dinner!! Result! :-)

I couldn't resist!! I checked the balance. £3,472.66 is the new balance which means halifax are very quick at taking back there money :-) Yay the satisfaction. I'm finally on my way. I also forgot we have a council tax break for the next two months...some more money to transfer to the card. It amazes me how much money can be found when you look. I also sold something else on eBay. Will wait for eBay to bill me then transfer that money too.

I did buy breakfast this morning after I went to weigh myself but the machine was broken so went mcds with a guy from work! Oops.

I have also purchased my sisters birthday present, with shipping this came to £25 so with card, wrapping paper an postage to her house should be £30 there or thereabouts. Not bad.

Off to clean before tomorrow's visit..

Ok day yesterday, I was so tired though. Work was busy and I had half day to study. One of my friends came round with her son and I was exhausted by the time they left! Not sure I'm ready for kids just yet! There is loads of drama going on between her and her OH and it really made me appreciate mine. They have booked to go Paris an I have to say I am slightly jealous but I do understand that the £200 plus spending money could clear my halifax interest incurring debt straight away, it's just not worth it. With everything that is going on in the world too!

I did manage to get some revision done but I'm not sure it's sinking in to my short term memory. I get so nervous about exams as it is. Went to asda on my way home to buy some meat an stuff and spent £22. Another week from Monday until payday and have £99.20 left in my account. Ideally I would like to transfer at least £50 of that to halifax but we shall see.

OH cooked dinner when he got back an we just chilled an went to bed. Today I'm planning on going to some decorating shops for testers an spending some time revising. Have a good day everyone.

So today I sat my exam and I failed exam and am really down about it as I revised so hard. I can retake but it's £129, which I have to put on my credit card. I hate leaving things unfinished and although it will add to my debt I might just do it.

Bad weekend for spending, doubtful I will make another £50 payment towards the Halifax card. Slightly deflated as you can tell..

    Sorry about your exam.
With hubby maybe he just got annoyed you brought the money side of it up so quick and wanted you to go on and on about how impressed you are? They can be like that. Love an ego massage. It's only fair he pays fairly into your account - you have supported him all this time.
Does he have any debts to pay? I'm guessing it's debts you've accrued for both of you so he should help anyway if that's his issue.
Maybe a joint account for bills seperate to both your accounts would help? He could see how much it all costs and not think it's your pin money any more.
Keep going!! Come on down to £300 you've got 12 days still :) xxx

Kitten868 - thanks for posting. Everyone is so nice and supportive on here. It's nice to have a community to sound off with and not have any judgement.

I possibly was too hasty by mentioning it on the day he got the job. I often do thinks like that as I just see it as getting everything out in the open, if that makes sense. You're right though I should have massaged his ego before asking him for money.

He has contributed towards the debt in situations like; when we needed shopping but were low on money and if the car needed a new tyre for example. I have never asked him for a penny but he occasionally says he will give some towards it but never does and I never ask. I am quite independent when it comes to money but I think that has been to my own detriment.

I don't believe in joint accounts when you're not married. We have a joint savings account for our house but I plan to implement a joint bills account once we marry and purchase our house. I am going to give him a break down of the bills I pay so he understands that I'm not just pocketing the money, although I do intend to use this to pay off my card as its money i would have Paid out anyway. ;-) we got into an argument earlier on tonight, as soon as I came back from work, as he is short £50 on the money he is supposed to give me. I feel like this is going to be a massive issue going forward as he cant talk about money and be reasonable. He thinks he should have over £700 spare whilst I pay for everything else and he contributes a small £200! I have asked for £300 which I don't think is bad going considering he has no debt or a car to run. I know he gets paid £1,000 a month only but it's spare cash that he would rather waste on taxis to and from work and food snacks. Am I being too harsh?

Today I thought I would start the day early so I could wake up properly and go to work nice an early to do a good job an whilst it's quiet get some things done, where does the time go... I practiced yoga last night to try and combat my feelings around the exam. It worked but I still feel like I let myself down. I hate that feeling, disappointment.

I have booked it again and paid for it on my nationwide credit card....I know, I know all that hard work of getting the balance down but this is something important to me. I can't leave things incomplete. Still waiting for my sisters present to arrive so went and got a card and wrapping from the local discounted card shop. I also bought a valentines card for my OH and plan to use the same wrapping! Spent about £3. I also brought lunch at £3.40, thought I would treat myself after my result...what an excuse I know! Need to send the present next day as it is taking ages to arrive so doubt it will come in under £30.

Another great tip I have picked up from here is using cash back websites. Only using top-cash back at the moment but already made 57p. Woohoo!!! Not a life saving amount but still money for spending mine. Money I have decided to save until the holiday next year, by then I'm hoping it will be in the tens! Does anyone know of any survey websites I can join? Every little helps and I could use a side income besides eBay and top cash back to maximise my payments. I keep imagining all the things I could do if I was debt free....
