I spent a good day with my Mum. I took her to do her shopping and then we went to lunch in Buckingham. We also had a look around some charity shops and both came away with a dress for taking on holiday next month.
    So a good day.
Dgd has brought home some new work for improving her skills etc, which will be a challenge to get her to do.
I think some little incentives will be needed to get her started.
I am still very tired easily and my left arm is playing up, so I am already up in bed. All I managed to do other then cooking the evening meal.
I will have to consider some help with the home from one of my friends who used to come regularly and see if she can help me get caught up as I am depressing myself not being able to achieve enough before feeling wiped out and going to bed.
Probably need "a tonic" as my granny would have said.

Disputes a good day yesterday I am struggling today.
Dgd and I were at loggerheads this morning and I have confiscated her Kindle until Monday. I lost my temper when she is glued to it and then not ready for school.
I am sick of the Sorry word when the same things happen day after day.
I had warned and warned her if she did not get ready for school Without me having to constantly nag it would go. So it is now at work and locked in the safe!
    If looks could kill!!!
I am exhausted from the battle of the school morning.
I have the car in the garage having a service which will set me back several hundred pounds as I want it to be done before the winter.
I have walked from the garage to the shop.
I am currently finishing off embroidering the last few Christmas hats then my order will be ready for dispatch tomorrow.

    If only!
No she has managed to get Netflix on her Mums account ( when with mum) and you tube.
She is watching iCarly, and Stampy Longhead or something like that,
    I wish she was reading!!!
One of the things that she is really behind with is her reading and writing!

I am trying to start the day on a positive vibe. Dgd is complaining of an earache and I hope that doesn't mean a round of more doctors trips and time off.
My Saturday girl who was going to join me for her Apprenticeship has told me that she is not going to now as she has decided to do her A levels.
I don't mind but will need to think about my options as I was considering the lease etc based not only on me but on the job I had offered her.

I wonder if there is a way to block media on the Kindle so she only has access to books unless you unlock the media bit. Might be worth asking Kindle support. Just a thought.

  • Could you discuss with DGD the use of the Kindle?

If mornings are a sore point then maybe she should not have it in the mornings at all.
My DD has watched those videos on YouTube and some are up to an hour long so I can see why she is glued to it.

Could you agree an amount of time she can watch it per day and once that time is up the Kindle goes away until the next time?

If DGD can read the clock then you could make it clear what time she must come off it, if she can't can you use a kitchen timer?

I know you have probably thought of all these so feel free to ignore me.

In the past my children have watched TV and got so engrossed so for the last 10 years we have not watched any TV in the morning. No one seems to miss it.

I think my problem was that i didn't stand my ground over it sooner. I would say the rules were no Kindle until she was ready for school, etc but as it was in her room as soon as I walked out she would pick it back up again. She knows what the rules are supposed to be but because she got in the habit of having it in the school holidays she then flouted the rules at every opportunity.
I will be having a little chat with her tonight as Friday she was at a sleepover with her friends and didn't come home until tea time yesterday and brought her friend back here for a sleepover. My friend is here today so I will wait until we are on our own tonight and and draw up the rules again and have a reward chart for her to focus on.
I must then follow through and not just threaten things.
She admitted to being shocked that I had actually taken it away until last night. I had threatened Monday but there was an improvement and she did help tidy her room and the spare room yesterday evening.

I am up early once again to take DS to his work. I think after Christmas I must find a way of getting him driving lessons.

I think the above 2 comments completely contradict themselves.:rotfl:
It is hard to stand your ground but sometimes you need to so children know who is in charge.

    Yep !
    I am too soft
Unfortunately I can't be granny that spoils. the thing we expect to be able to do as I have to be "Mum"

I have just got home from the neighbour's.
After weeks of telling her that I thought shr should be able to get housing benefits etc, and as she was told no on application she took them as gospel.
But going on Entitled to she has been told differently.
I hope she will now challenge the council and reclaim.
For a start she is entitled to 25% off as a single person council tax claimant
EE I think you have rubbed off on me!
