Okay thanks, already done package 1 and directx9 is needed for package 2, I'll install directx9 but won't bother with package 2 then0 -
Right, it's ready to use I think.
Just taken me 15 minutes to re-start the PC, an old problem I have when i d/l anything - Windows could not upgrade file %1 to %2 - only Nero had so many files it went through therm individually
My PC is a box of neutrals at times :rotfl:0 -
Crikey sounds like you need to format and start again m80

Just install Nero and use it to write the stuff you want to.
If you need help using Nero (it has more features therefore may be difficult to understand at first) then download/read the User Manuals.0 -
Hmmmm, it says read-in - buffer level and it has no buffer level!
Wouldn't do pics, so tried a video CD, and it took 1 hour 12 minutes to encode? Then started to record but stopped before it did :rotfl:
Would defragging help or re-installing windows?
Would re-installing windows delete all my files?
Thanks0 -

Try the nero trial, when you burn a cd it will give you a 'buffer' level. Watch the buffer and see if it drops to a low level. Roxio software is not the best....
Did you try the firmwares?
It didn't even have a buffer level. Is there anything I can do on the PC to change this or is the drive just not working properly.
It's a CD/DVD R/RW so I assume it's meant to!0 -
Defrag wouldn't make much of a difference unless it had never been defragged and you have deleted loads of big files.
A reformat and fresh install of WinME (XP is better if you can buy a copy and assuming your system specs can take it). I believe would make a difference to the speed and possibly the problem with the writer especially if it takes 15minutes to restart computer!?!?
Yes, it would remove all your files so if its possible backup your personal files (to floppy if they'll fit or something) and ensure you have drivers for your hardware (graphics, sound, etc) just in case WinME doesn't have them.
If you don't want to reformat and re-install WinME then you could try and defrag it. If this is what you prefer then best to restart your computer and close down any programmes you may have running that aren't needed and then run defrag.0 -

Defrag usually takes about 4 hours on my PC. Since 2 months ago when I had to recover from a crash, I have d/l alot and some big files, so maybe defrag to start with.
It only took 15 mins this time as Nero had so many files.
I'll need to save all the pics to floppy, CD was a better option as it fits more. All my vid files will be lost though
I'll try de-frag first. I still have 15 months on my cover to run, so could call them out again to have a look at it, but it would be the 3rd time in 3 & 3/4 years.
Will start soon:cool:
