CD Rom Drive Problems

Tharweb wrote:I hope it's not the case for you, but I had similar problems with a Samsung Combo drive and it turned out that the drive was duff. Combo drives aren't recommended anymore due to these kind of problems.
I replaced mine with a CD burner as I didn't need the facility to play DVD's on my PC, I had a standalone player.
You can get a DVD burner now for around £30.
Yes, this is my third one, albeit in 4 years nearly. I rarely use it and it plays alot of things fine.
One thing I must say though, although it won't affect my current burning effort, most of my CD's were burnt when I had a 52x speed drive. When this one bust, they gave me an 8x speed  The first replacement the guy was really nice and upgraded it, the second guy downgraded back to what it originally came with
Could that be a problem with playing burned CD's from the old 52x re-writer?
I don't watch DVD's anyway, so maybe a CD Drive only would be useful0 -
Because your saying your HDD is alittle slow and you only have 192MB of RAM it could be your p.c struggling.
Try the nero trial, when you burn a cd it will give you a 'buffer' level. Watch the buffer and see if it drops to a low level. Roxio software is not the best....
Did you try the firmwares?0 -

I have a disc of NERO if you want it.
I since got a newer version with my Pioneer 109
PM me your address if its any use to you.
You can download a demo version of Nero v6 Reloaded hereI think the only limitation is that you can only use it for so many days.
If you can write using Nero v6 without a problem then it'll be possibly the Easy version you were running (the latest I think is v7). If you still have problems than it could be due to a slow system, etc as posted by T4i.0 -

Thanks, the 5.0 version was fine, if only I could find the CD....although I haven't used since new drive was put in.
I have d/l, but not yet used, it said don't unless you are 100% sure and when I d/l AOL's modem driver updates it buggered my modem and had to use my spare one and now when I sign in sometimes it asks me to upgrade again so i pulll the modem and sign in again :rotfl:0 -

I am downloading now, says I gotta d/l all 3 parts, so may take some time, as it's only going 30-40 KB/s on 512k - usually goes late 50's mid 60's.
I have spywared etc and cleared all bad things. Is there anything else i can do.
To be honest, the PC is a pile of poop :rotfl: endless problems but it still works0 -
If you find the Nero version works okay and you want the full version, you can get it from here for just the cost of post and packing.

I tried Roxio on mine and went back to Nero as it was less problematical.

Thanks! How can they do it so cheap?
I take it the £19.99 is the original price...0 -
no idea but they are quite often mentioned on this site. You can only order one thing at a time from their 'loyalty' section so although it says £0.00 its really £2.99 or whatever their P&P now costs. They also have some good bargains in their 'special offers' section.0

Thanks, will give the trial a go and then if need be, go for the £2.99 full version0
