Yes indeed! I think we do. I'm not from here originally but I've lived here for eleven years :hello:

Me neither I'm from Lincs area originally well have to meet up sometime if you want

    Morning all

    This should raise a smile
So there I am last night having just dropped ds2 at the cinema to see frankturner documentary decide to have a nice soak in the bath before food and an episode of call the midwife. I hear loads of excited chatter and bells outside, we live near a park and a pub so not unusual to have noise. I'm in my bubble bath with a cuppa having a soak when I hear the by then large group that sound like elephants gathering on my drive they shout me by name with much ringing of bells and then proceed to start singing carols interspersed with we know your home mrs'moneypenny' I decided to my horror that I'm missed the memo that the school I work at was doing carols singing around the estate but thought however much money they raised it would not cover the cost of trauma conselling the children would need if I answered the door covered in bubbles and an ill fitting towel:o:o so I'm about to head off to work and face the staffroom to explain why I wouldn't answer the door last night, I expect the ribbing to last into the new year.

  • I feel like Christmas has ground to a halt here. It's 11 days away and we have no decorations and I have no festive spirit.

It's all cause of this bloody virus we all have. I'm at the coughing fits stage. And now I've caught my Mum's eye infection. And I've not left the house in a week. :( We're all going to be ill for Christmas at this rate.

Mrs M - That did make smile. :rotfl:

Hope everyone else is enjoying the countdown! :)

Hi.Tis the season to be poorly. My cold is very strange and is mainly sore throat and earache.Since the festive eating has begun I am plagued by my stomach ulcer. Was up at 4:30 this morning eating dry toast.I will eat bland until my next meal out on Friday.(mind you that pate at craft club meal yesterday was delish)

The children loved the story and they drew me pictures afterwards. They were 6,7 and 8.(mixed class).I so miss childrens company.I need my children to produce some grandchildren.Hope they don't wait until they are as old as I was otherwise I will be pushing 80!

The stair carpet is being fitted today.

Porch tree done, sitting room tree done,Hall done,Kitchen looks like the aftermath of a hurricane.Thats todays job before I go out to a soup lunch and Sally Army band at the community centre.I have lost the feet off the 6ft green tree, none of the other spare tree feet fit!I am going to make more mess by emptying my shed to get at a log basket to see if I can somehow stand the trunk in a bag of sand in the basket!

I love the fact that your children came to sing on your drive Mrs M.You will never live it down at school.

I might go out later and try to buy Christmas material to make a couple of Christmas tree skirts.Cos iv'e got nowt else to do just now.

    Take care Vx

    Welcome to the thread KNIGHTRIDER.

    Thanks, Peppapig! :-D

Sorry to hear so many people have the lurgy at the moment - seems to be a lot of it around! The office was pretty much deserted as so many people were ill last week. I had something a few weeks ago but nothing is going to stop me having a good Christmas this year!

On the plus side, if you're at home, perfect excuse to watch lots of Christmas movies!

Hope everyone feels better soon! :-)
  • Morning all! Had my "first" Christmas dinner last night, always cook for my brother. He decided that we always have steak (no we don't!) so was very disappointed to see the lamb! However, he had to admit, it was a really nice bit of meat, saw it in Sainsbury's at the weekend, was rolled & stuffed with mint, I thought I had overcooked it as I forgot to keep an eye on the time, but even though I do say so myself, it was cooked to perfection, served with cheesy mashed potatoes, carrotts & corn cobs, followed by warm brownies & cream. Think I may have overdone the eating bit! He is going to go home on Fri, so at least there will be someone there with my mum, stubborn woman refused to stay with my aunt

Got a bit of mixed feelings on this, so would appreciate outsider view. The charity will be sorting out hampers for those in need at the weekend, but there is one family that is causing a bit of "conflict" amongst us. Like a lot, they have financial constraints, but they always assume that we will solve it for them and it is always the last minute when they come. This year they have asked us to provide Christmas dinner, the whole works! Now, ordinarily, we would not have an issue at contributing, but they need to learn that they can't assume that we will sort it. All of their problems are caused by lack of education (not just financial) & alcohol, which have now been made worse because their pregnant daughter & son in law have moved back in, together with a plethora of young children already in family home. So now we have conflicting opinions in the charity, no to supporting them, on the basis that they need to learn (which I agree with, as long as we are there to bail them out, they will never learn) but at the same time, it is unfair to address the sins of the parents on the children (which, again I agree with). No matter how cheaply we could do it, it is unfair that we potentially spend more on a single meal for 12 than a family of 4 for a week.
A smile costs little but creates much :)
  • Afternoon everyone, i am sofa surfing today as yesterday i was mum the taxi and today i am paying for it with my fibro  I had to take DD2 to hospital to have 6 injections in her lower back to help with all the pain, so fingers crossed they all work this time, then i had to pick DS up from work. I havent really done anything christmassy except watch some christmas films this week.

PEPPAPIG aww i hope DGD has a fabulous time in Lapland, it is so magical out there. How lovely seeing DGS in his nativity as well, i cant wait to see Thumper do all these sorts of things

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY omg that would drive me nuts having all those trees!!! I feel for you having to make the decision it is unfair on the other families who dont take it for granted. I would just give them the essentials needed to make a christmas dinner for the childrens sake, and perhaps a selection pack for the children, but no extras, especially if they spend their money on alcohol and not the children, it is a very hard decision

NIC glad you enjoyed your works christmas do

MRSMONEYPENNY haha that made me laugh, oh your poor thing i expect the relaxation went to pot then

CLUMSY i hope you are all better for christmas

VULPIX boo to your stomach ulcer playing up, glad your radio christmas story all went well. I bet your house looks wonderfully festive

  • Gettingtherequickly - I don't have anything helpful to offer, other than to say that looks like a no win situation, no matter what you decide!

Vulpix - your stocking is beautiful!

Sorry I fell off the radar, I got too busy at work, and then correspondingly exhausted outside of work, so stopped reading. But, I didn't quit on Christmas stuff, my present shopping is all done and the house is decorated!

Sorry to see so many of you are poorly!

OH is out for a couple of hours tonight so I will start on the wrapping, while listening to Christmas songs :xmassmile:rudolf:

GTQ I agree with FREE that providing the very basics means the children aren't going without but will also help show the rest of the family that they can't constantly rely on the charity. I'm always conflicted with these situations because I'm not a great one for helping those who do nothing to help themselves but like you say, you don't want to punish the children for their parents' shortcomings. Having said that I think SNORKY is right too, it's one of those times when you're damned if you do and damned if you don't! That dinner you did for your brother sounds very yummy. I could eat that right now!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FEISTY!!!!! Hope it's a great one. (Thanks for the reminder FREE).

hello please can I sneak back in very embarassed that I have left it so long. I can't believe it is only 10 days till Christmas Eve. I totally blame FREESPIRIT for my absence! Last time I was here she was talking about bullet journaling so I went and had a look...I am now totally addicted! Are you still doing yours Free?

I promise I will try and stay this time. Looking forward to chatting to you all again as it gets closer to Christmas. I think I am going to have a wrapping session tomorrow evening as DH and the boys are out.
