Praise: Everyone working on or around Christmas

So at this time of year the pressure is really on for those who are working in all sorts of fields.

I did a lot of online shopping and the delivery people have done a fabulous job, I know a lot of them are working overtime to make sure we get our Christmas presents. Not many people were out and about this morning when I set off to work but there were post people everywhere!

Thank you

Those working in bustling supermarkets and other retail stores at this time of year - you guys have to work extra long shifts just so we can shop late at night. And you take the brunt of our frustrations when there's no more sprouts left and we freak out a little bit...

Thank you! :T

And don't forget the people working in our emergency services as paramedics, nurses, doctors, police, fire fighters, 999 operators and even the unsung heroes who keep those places ticking over from the hospital cooks to the cleaners...

Thank you! :A

Please keep these people in mind at Christmas, if something goes wrong don't take it out on the staff. Remember, the most important thing is that you're with your family, not that a certain package was late or a shop ran out of something. And if you see someone working at Christmas give them an extra cheery smile!

Thank you to all working in and around Christmas and New Year. Hope you still manage to have a good one :rudolf:

  • Can I add carers to the list - the ones who look after my father have been absolutely fantastic despite being on near-enough minimum wage and have gone well beyond what they should do in order to give my mother a good Christmas as well.
  • What a lovely post from the OP.

My daughter is a carer and is working from 23-30, so will be working both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It's Just the way her shifts have fallen.

Lovely post OP :) very true. When I was working I often used to have to work over Christmas (NHS HCA) but now I am more grateful to my unpaid carer, my OH who despite having worked very hard in the run up to Xmas (he works for Royal Mail) is now going to have to spend his holiday caring for me. So here's to the unpaid carers too xx

I wish that the customer whom I spoke to at 5:50 pm last night (10 mins before close) had read this post.... :o
  • Can we not forget bank contact centre staff as I'd have to admit I was extremely grateful to speak to someone lovely and calming yesterday evening when I realised my debit card was lost. :o
Certainly could not have been rude about it. Thank goodness I wasn't given an overdraft them months back.

Worked long hours right up to (Xmas eve which was an anti climax) and so next week we shall be on (agreed) reduced hours with the custom not there so be grateful what you wish for doesn't half spring to mind here.

My bank contact centre is based in India so it's no great hardship for them to work around xmas!

    Very thoughtful post OP.

I complain about my job in Retail (especially at this time of the year) but for those working Christmas Day, Boxing Day in all walks of life do deserve a special mention.

Some people (myself included) should be more grateful there are folk out there putting our needs above theirs.

We do tend to take for granted the people who work over this period, don't we? I too would like to say thank you to them and to hope that those working are those for whom it was a choice.
