On another note, its very reassuring to see so many other people quietly returning unwanted Xmas gifts! I often feel like a right ungrateful mare when I do that, but it grieves me badly to see SO MUCH money wasted on things that will literally never be used when there are so many things we desperately need.

I'm a practical gift person. I've even asked people to buy me toothpaste in the past (I make my own now though), but they look at me like I'm mad not to want some frivolous item that will spend 5 years, languishing in a corner until I feel I can legitimately donate or sell it on.

It sounds like we are allowed to include money from returned items to the challenge too....is that right?
    £10 a day 2017 - APR £60.12 / MAR £82.24 / FEB £142.82 / JAN £241.24

Same thing happened to me at the Post Office before Christmas. One package contained 1 x 75ml of perfume spray, one contained 5 x 2.5ml of the same perfume spray. The 75ml package was fine, but the 5 x 2.5ml package wasn't. Here's where it gets even more stupid - I was allowed to transfer 2 x 2.5ml sprays to the package with the 75ml bottle in it

They were gifts for two nieces so I had to send both packages to my sister and ask her to separate them and re-wrap!

    and :rotfl:

On the moneymaking front, I have nothing to add today but a girl at work persuaded me to buy a lottery ticket for Saturday.
  • Just taken a look at Receipt Hog, how many coins do you need to hit for payout?

    1500 for paypal £5

    1000 for £3 paypal

You can upload 3 receipts from the same place, all different daily. You can earn x amount until you hit 100 coins for a week and then it is 5 coins for every rexeipt, no matter the amount

It's to do with the current regulations for the PO, which have been updated and the staff have to check a whole list of what is not allowed and what is.

I know this because I've done a couple of M shops checking up on this to ensure they are asking all the right questions and not accepting barred items. They also know that they are being M shopped so probably being extra careful.

Lists are available in POs and probably on-line. I remember that things like toiletry sets have to be in original packaging or they won't accept them.

Also I found out that they randomly check parcels and if they don't fit the criteria they are destroyed !!

D'you mean they actually OPEN people's parcels to see what's inside ! :(

Here is the Royal Mail guide for anyone interested (it's a pdf file) http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/Dangerous-Goods-Leaflet-May-2015-sml.pdf

I find the rules on batteries strange - different rules apply if you send the batteries in an appliance.

Anyway I am adding £21.73 to my total, received from WeBuyBooks today.

My cashback from sky (switching to sky broadband/phone saved us £20 a month so it was already a win) that was confirmed 5 months ago finally became Payable, just cashed out £84.84!!!
And I might have sold one of my slings for £80 too but that won't be confirmed until tomorrow. Going to update my total. I fear I'm setting myself up for. Big disappointment in Feb... But I'm not going to complain, at this rate we might almost clear one of our overdrafts!!! Omg!
Very: £965.30 (must be gone by 01/07/16)
    Personal Loan: £1902.03
Overdrafts (split over 2 accounts): £1100
Credit Card: £3781.61 (currently interest free)
    Mortgage: £29,410.53 (6 years, 4 months remaining)
    Bed finance: £1450 (interest free)

  • I'll certainly do that next time, although I doubt there'll ever be anything like that amount of stuff to post all at once again:eek:.
I could have just made something up I suppose, like telling her that they were all the same thing but they were such a mix of shapes and sizes I'd have been rumbled:rotfl:

I've only ever been there with 3 books to post at most at any one time. It's a tiny village store type PO and it's recently changed hands. I don't think the staff are fully au fait with the workings of it yet;). The alternative PO I use sometimes seems to take bags of parcels from people just as yours did. Will try there if there's a next time;)

I use a tiddly little one as well [like to give them the profit :) ] They only have 3 staff who alternate behind "the bar" and they're all different in how they deal with you.

The one thing they all have in common is that it takes a huge amount of time tyo post a second class small parcel with proof of postage, because of all teh "proceedures" they have to go through !

Collect plus - you just hand it over the counter and they scan the bar code and give you a receipt - that's it ! - NOBODY EVER asks "What's in it ? " - but then they're not "nationalised "
