Thanks shs. We had a lovely BH Monday house hunting around your favourite rug shop, with BF really liking the place which was the correct answer. We have found a few things to rent, one that allows dogs but is being refurbished at the moment, so we are hoping that the landlord holds off giving us notice as long as possible.
Meanwhile my flat had lots of interest and the agent has hopefully found the right couple to take it on. Still haven't sold the horsebox so no OPs yet.

I get the excitement of setting up a joint account soon! :j

  • Ooohhh. I am jealous. Love the Arboretum.

Had a disastrous weekend there with family ( most of family spent most of it broken down on the motorway) but did get that rug which still looks good and has pride of place.

DH and I have just got a joint account after 11 years married. Not sure if we're rushing it?!
  • Is the box a trailer or a lorry?
  • Haven't started rug shopping yet, but edging closer to the country dream.

It's a horsebox, old but reliable. Mechanic is selling it with a warranty but privately I'd get half as much so I'm happy to leave it with him for now.

What's changed after 11 years that you need a joint account? Besides the horse house? I end up paying for all the food and he pays for all the bills, would rather we both do halves and drink anything left over!

Found a cottage to rent. Now to buy heavy curtains, draught excluders and a guide to cooking on an aga.

    What mortgage? :o

  • By eck there's a lot of paperwork to get sorted to rent somewhere. I hope my own tenants are getting grilled as much as we are. Less than 3 weeks to go and I can't wait to get the fire going.

  • Farmhouse fail, new rental has broadband speeds of approximately zero. At least it means I am able to get out of my contract at the flat early as they refuse to move the service, and as I got £140 cashback to move not long ago, I have made money on it.

Moving on Friday, boxes are starting to appear, I had probably start filling them.

  • It is so exciting that I have given myself a cold. Thankfully I spent all Sunday cooking and cleaning so I came home to ready-made home-made soup yeatersay and have lunches and dinners prepped for the rest of the week.

It turns out that trying to pack up, use and live in the contents of a 1 bed flat all at the same time is really tricky. I think we will just have to chuck it all in the van on moving day and sort out the disaster next week. Really need to order logs so I don't freeze to death and hate the country pad before we even unpack.

My tenants have passed referencing so I'm all set to be a landlord. Gulp.

  • Oh yes, I find that rental paperwork seems worse than what we went through recently trying to get a mortgage!
Is it a wood burning aga? My brother lived in a little cottage that was streaming with condensation because he used the electric heaters provided. As soon as he set up the aga, all the condensation left!

A tip for draught proofing indoor doors is to sew 2 draught protectors to a strip of fabric that's the depth of the door. You then slid the fabric under the door and hey presto you never have to keep placing the protector by the door, as it now moves with the door. I used to get so frustrated with it, but now we just forget it's there as we hardly ever have to adjust it.

So basically you have a draught protector on both sides of the door.
