My switch to Bulb (via MSE) was glitch-free, I was kept well-informed of switching progress, including being told that my old supplier had received my final meter reading (which became useful when my old supplier wouldn't produce a Final Bill - they could not deny knowledge).

Meter readings easy to submit; first bill is timely and understanable (24th Mar); and they've credited the MSE £12.50 cashback (18th Mar). So, so far so good.

After the chaos at my old supplier (Outfox The Market) it's a breath of fresh air. Let's hope it stays that way!
  • MalMonroe - don't know if you'll see this, but did you check your old supplier's rates against Bulb's before switching? When I did my research I believed they were the cheapest energy supplier out there so it's confusing as to why you'd be paying more with them than your previous supplier. Is there any chance your consumption has increased? Has anything changed in your home? Or is it worth comparing your old bills with the new ones and seeing if there's a discrepancy in usage? It's the only way you're going to get to the bottom of it. If your consumption is the same then there must be something amiss with your Bulb deal. Did you switch both gas and elec? They offer a discount when you switch both.

Saying that, the switch over experience was pretty smooth for us. Customer service has been alright - we didn't realise the DD was going to have to be paid up front and as we also had a final bill to pay from our previous supplier it was a bit of a worry as to how we would pay both bills. However, when we spoke to Bulb they said we could defer the first month's payment and just start the DD up again the following month. I was concerned that they'd start chasing us for the unpaid DD but they haven't. We haven't as yet taken any readings so I'm not sure what the bills are like (if they're more than the DD or not), but we recently got an email from them saying their prices were going down which was a very nice surprise. It's usually the other way 'round! We did check the Bulb prices against our previous supplier and along with the dual fuel discount there was a decent saving - we just need to check the bills to compare. But if the usage is the same, the bills should be lower.

Electricity only rate is the same rate if both fuels are switched, dual fuel discount scrapped

Just to clarify - If I just move Electricity to Bulb it will have the exact same rates as it would it I also moved my Gas to Bulb at the same time ?

Oh, I think they don't call it the dual fuel discount anymore...they say they give a reduced standing charge rate per year if you change both gas and elec which amounts to the same as the dual fuel discount so it's basically the same thing but just called something different. It's there on the Bulb website, but I'm unable to post the link.

It's the same rates, but they give you a £15 a year discount on each fuel if you switch both.

"If you only buy one fuel from Bulb, you will save £15 per year because we’re lowering Bulb’s standing charges on electricity and gas from 24.56p per day (£89.62 per year) to 20.44p per day (£74.62 per year). The above prices include VAT at 5%"
  • What does Bulb think about smart meters? I am about to swap to Bulb but also am due to have a smart meter fitted next week by my current supplier. ;)
