Earning less than taxi fare

And complain to the council and bus company about treating a Saturday as a bank holiday when it isn't.Could you find a taxi company whose fares are not regulated by the Council.
or ask a work colleague if they could pick you up and you will give them 'petrol and a bit.
What about a bike?0 -
Unless there is someone willing to swap who wants to work boxing day (a slim chance) then yes of course she has to go in, why wouldn't she? It is not fair if she has has an exemption someone will have to cover her shift and just because others drive/live closer they should not be penalised for that by having to cover the 'inconvenient' days nobody wants to do just because they are able to get into work easier.
It is unfortunate for her she will be out of pocket but it is only one day and she still be 'in profit' over the course of the week/month.
If she is really annoyed about it then maybe she should think about learning to drive then buying a car. She will probably find that costs her more per year than all the bus fares/taxi fees put together.
She could ask if one of her colleagues would be prepared to give her lifts if she paid x amount (half of the taxi fare for example) this might work as she would be getting to work cheaper and the colleague would be making some extra money as this would more than cover the petrol cost.0 -
I'd ask around colleagues who are also starting at that time. Someone might be kind! I know when I was training for the 5am starts my boss picked me up from home a couple of times (thereafter I was scheduled on my own, so Dad took me). Otherwise probably best to view it as an additional commuting cost averaged over the year as someone said. Maybe if the cost is really a problem she could get a taxi part way and walk part, or cycle. Even a scooter might make it quicker (especially if there are downhill stretches) if the kids have one she can borrow?0

It always use to be anyone working overtime; Sunday (or perhaps even Saturday); or working a Bank Holiday would get extra pay. At least time + half. If it's a Black Cab you're friend is using don't blame the driver or even the taxi company, their obliged to charge what the Council tell them to. (Private hire are different) When i drove a Cab we had clock + half after midnight and double clock for Bank Holidays.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

She would probably have considered it even more unfair if she hadn't got the job because where she lived/how she commuted had been taken into account when she applied. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If she starts work at 5am, how does she normally get there?
Possibilities are:-
1-Suck it up - there will be others in this situatioin
2-Phone in sick - everyone knows she is skiving
3-Borrow a pushbike?
4-Ask more friends / relatives - however this is a HUGE ask, as will involve getting up sober at what, say 4am boxing day, so is a bit of a christmas day ruiner for the lift giver
To be honest, I would be looking at borrowing a bikeWith love, POSR

Surely the 8 miles fare isn't going to cost what she will earn for the full day. I assume there is a bus for her way back or someone who can take her back.
I think that is her only option unfortunately, not great, but sometimes you have to grit your teeth. She should definitely no phone in sick, that's the quickest way to end up without a job at some time, or at least to have to go to work with a boss who will not show much care for her needs.0 -
It is unfortunate and I think the options have been covered here already. Personally I'd ask a colleague if there's any chance of picking her up and offering them petrol £ + a bit, and perhaps give them a bottle of wine or some chocs as a thank you (doesn't have to be expensive and lots of us have excess plonk at this time of year). I'm calculating it would be a 16mile round trip for any of the colleagues out of their way (ie past place of work, 8 miles to pick up and 8 miles back) so OPs friend might be more successful if they ask for a lift home after work, even that would help and it wouldn't mean colleague has to get up extra early.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

How about we all stop needing to go shopping on Boxing Day and let the hard working retail staff have a proper rest after the Christmas madness. Essential services have to keep going but shopping doesn't.0

+1! Even couriers won't be working boxing day when we have sales online...
I know this clearly isn't a hyperthetical thread but really leaving it 6 days to worry and panic might just make someone ill anyhow.
why leave something so concerning till the last minute!0
