I already told you, my mileage is 600 per month, mix of roundabouts and motorway.

By the way, how come you have so low insurance? I live in Basildon and I find insurance for £600+ per annum for a cheap hatchback. I have 15+ EU driving licence but only 1 NCB in UK. Would it reduce if I exchange my EU licence for UK? Is my location the problem? Is it the NCB?

Exchanging your licence from one EU country for another EU country will make no difference - UK is still in the EU (despite some peoples' desires) and we must all be treated the same - your problem can only be lack of NCB.

I went through all the licencing possibilities and implications with several insurance companies before going with Allianz for Mrs Iceweasel's car.

Who counts it? Because all the insurance companies I asked they don't.

Which car is true 50mpg? My diesel is supposedly 67mpg and I pay
    £100 for fuel per month!
I have a 2005 peugeot 206 hdi diesel. I get around 600 miles to a tank, sometimes less if I'm doing a lot more in town driving, but it works out to about 54mpg I think. So my last tank cost me £47 if that helps?

I bought the car when it was a year old, and exdisplay with 1000 miles on the clock. Don't know what it is really worth now, but maybe see what they are selling for now as might be cheaper for you to insure and get diesel for?

I did try them with horrendous results.

As did I. They had no trouble with my EU NCB, insuring two vehicles on their chassis number for the purposes of importing them one of which was LHD plus a couple of UK vehicles.

Go on, I'll bite, what were your horrendous results? Did they have you arrested, beaten, and thrown into a lake full of crocodiles, or did they just quote you £50 more than you wanted?

You wouldn't get a lease deal to cover insurance. If your only managing <30mpg with a modern diesel than changing your driving style to improve the mpg is most likely the best way to reduce your fuel bill.

Electric cars have alot less range/fuel than a petrol/diesel car, if you drive an electric car such as the Leaf with the same style of driving your doing to achieve 30mpg in a diesel I suspect you wouldn't get much more than 50-60 mile from a 100% charge (I currently get 70-90miles depending on weather/speed/traffic).

Shame because then you would have had recognised UK NCB after the first year.
