Lease electric car.

I have no idea how much is the cheapest electric car to lease. I pay £100 per month for fuel. Adding insurance, tax and maintenance, it adds £100 more. Could I lease an electric car with less than £200 including everything apart from electricity?

Renault and Nissan have been doing good deals.

I am sure somebody posted in the forum the costs and they were pretty cheap.

Leasing is a good option for EVs as their residuals are likely to be poor going by the used prices of EVs I have seen.

If you drive 50 miles a month no problem.
If you drive 5,000 miles a month, unlikely.

Some clues as to your driving style / profile would be helpful here, especially as the the range may be a limiting factor for some models, and some batteries are charged (no pun intended) for separately.

My max range is 100 miles for RETURN journey. My monthly mileage is about 600 miles per month. Any real life prices?
  • I have no idea of costs, though one would make sense in a way for my daily commute.

Your problems come when you have to make those longer journeys, when the public charging points at places like motorway service areas were put in they were never used, now they are nearly always in use whenever i use the services, doesn't take much imagination what will happen as they become more popular when people already lose their tempers over someone taking 20 seconds too long at the petrol pumps.

You're 100 mile return journey will only work if you can absolutely guarantee a charge point during the journey.
  • I pay under £170 a month for a two year, 10.5K pa PCP with a £250 deposit on a Renault Zoe. I was previously paying £350-£400 in diesel a month, now use less than £80 a month. To be fair, the car spends more time with Renault than with me due to being riddled with electrical faults, but they pay for the fuel in the courtesy car so it doesn't cost me anything.

I charge at work or motorway services so never pay for my electrical use, though.

100 miles round trip you need to recharge, do you have anywhere to do that?

Not necessarily. I can quite easily get over 100 miles out of the Zoe. Depends on driving style, but a smooth user can achieve it.

Mind you, in winter it does mean driving in warm clothes rather than using the heater...

Depends if the OP lives at the top of a big hill.. ;)
If it's only 600 miles a month then that 100 mile return journey is probably happening only once a month, so may well be doable.

£89 deposit plus £89 per month + £80 per month for the battery based on 7,500 miles = £169

600 miles at a conservative 3 miles per kWh = around 200kWh of electricity at home per month @ 8p (our economy 7 rate) = £16 electricity per month

Total £185 / month, even if you recharge at home 100%

Completely agree. I negotiated monthly cost down very easily, so it's possible to pay less for higher mileage, but one still needs to factor in 'fuel' costs - as I say, I'm lucky that I can charge for free at work; and my driving style and journey profile mean 100mi on a 'tank' of electrons is achievable. Inclusive of insurance, my Zoe costs me £182 a month for 10500mi PA... Good value compared to my prior fuel costs.

Good to have a real user here. Can you tell me please:
    - what do you mean 10.5K pa PCP?
    - does the £170pcm include insurance, maintenance and tax (if there is any)?
    - what do you mean you use less than £80pcm?
    - how long it takes to charge to make like 30miles?
