I got conned by travellers once and looking back on it now, it's glaringly obvious it was a scam, and it's really humiliating to think back to it but at the time it's like someone mentioned, they know how to turn the screws, they're professionals at it. I had their van registration, their mobile phone number, the police didn't want to know. So do have comfort that you're not the only one but by sharing at least you could help someone else avoid the same trap.

• Don't be so hard on this poster. If he said he would move this block so it was right under her nose so she couldn't lose she would be drawn into carrying on playing out of desperation to win her money back. This game is a scam because as we've seen it's rigged by the stall holder so you can't win even if it looks like you can.

Oh and you can win at gambling.

I was also scammed in a similar way not so long ago. I managed to get the money back though using a foolproof plan I obtained from a friend later.

If you PM me £10 I'll guarantee you get your money back(actually make it £30 and I'll throw in an Eeyore) ;)

Sorry to hear you lost so much money and thanks for coming on here to let others know. Just ignore the horrible comments some people have made, they are obviously perfect and have never made a silly mistake in their life ever! I know I've made plenty, and will no doubt make a few more yet in my lifetime....

Nosskibird, Thank you so much for posting this and warning others.
It takes courage to post how you were led into this, and i applaud you for warning others so they don't fall into the same trap.

Please ignore the irresponsiable remarks from others, you were wrongly hustled into giving more money, and for this reason would urge you to send an email to Blackpool Trading Standards who's responsibility it is to control these traders, for which they require a permit to trade. Their email address is tradstand@blackpool.gov.uk.

We all like a little gamble when at the seaside to win a big cuddly toy, but to hustle you again and again is wrong.
Unfortunatley, with the number of people holidaying in the uk rapidly decreasing, I can only see the situation getting worse as the traders to try to make up short-falls. This is why i urge you to send that email, as i would suspect they are in breach of their permit.

Thanks again for sharing

I had understood that this was a friendly community where (amongst other things) people who have, in some instances, made bad judgement calls can get some advice. How on earth can anyone have the confidence to ask for help when there are such judgemental people who are prepared to mock soley for their own sport. We all make mistakes and it takes a bigger person to admit to them than it does to than it does to judge them.

You are very brave in posting!!

I live in the said place, have done all my life. Blackpool attracts the hen partys, stag do's and general party people, willing to throw their money away to people like these, thats why they are here, because they make really good money! Most people wont even remember handing their money over to them they will be that drunk, thats the place its become now. Sorry to seem hard on you, I am really very sorry you feel like you have been scammed, but the truth is he saw you coming, yes it was wrong of him, but you wont have been the first or last person that day that he *scammed* When ever I am in town and they yell over or try and pull me in I just say *I live here, I dont think so* Thats always enough, they know the locals wouldnt touch any of these side shows ever.

Please report him to Blackpool Trading Standards like the above poster said and again I am really sorry you lost your money. There are some really nice people who live in Blackpool usually the ones that were born here not the ones that move in to make quick money ;)

We were lured in by a man claiming to ‘give’ us so much help to win the hoopla game that it was impossible for us to lose. We would win our money back, £50 in cash, a bottle of champagne and/or a giant teddy bear. In return he asked us to promote the stall to everyone we could.

The phrase "win your money back plus....." rings a very large alarm bell. How can they afford to give away money like that? Well, you know the answer now.

I'm amazed that the OP went off to cashpoint to get more cash. Oh well.

I would recommend everyone watches 'The Real Hustle' thats regularly shown on BBC3 and you'll see how easy people are taken in by these sorts of scams and I expect the OP was taken in the same way - you can see the sort of people who get targeted.
I had the misfortune of watching The Real Hustle a few weeks ago. Yes, it is quite entertaining, but it's really a low rent drama programme hiding under the auspices of being information. If you took everything in that programme seriously you'd become as paranoid as those chain email writers are. I'd advocate just using a bit of common sense.
