  • I think I've told this story on here before, but it still makes me laugh.
My husband can't drink alcohol due to life-long medication and I am very allergic to only one thing - chillis. My sister's xmas present to us both? A bottle of chilli vodka. The only present that could kill us both!
  • I've had 2 from the same person - my ex best friend - on different years The first was a dead plant oozing and drooping green slime, the second was 1of a four for a £ used jigsaw puzzle pieces bent and torn. The plant was left at her house the jigsaw put in the bin.
  • Lavender bath salts from my MIL. I hate lavender and never bath which she knew as we discussed whether to put in a bath when redoing bathroom. She also bought me Anais anais perfume which she knew I hated and a cheap gold necklace when she has only ever seen me wear silver. Also slippers just like my granny used to wear. She was always pleasant enough to my face but I got the impression she didn't like me really. The charity shops benefited.

Happy to say she's going to be an ex-MIL shortly so no horrible pressie this year.
  • I had hinted to my husband that I would like a typewriter - so the large box looked promising. I was gutted when I opened it (I was only 23 at the time!)

Why do employers insist on giving you alcohol? I only drink the odd glass of wine and my OH only drinks beer. I have about 4 bottles of wine which is not to my taste in the cupboard - one from last summer. I'd rather have the money. If it was food I didn't like I could give it to the food bank
Perhaps I should drink the lot and turn up drunk for work!

Get over yourself. Use it for cooking or re-gift it. Ungrateful

We open our gifts at midnight so we've already got a couple of howlers! OH's brother and his wife are known every year for buying us erm- unusual presents. I'm now teetotal for medical reasons and so I was surprised and pleased to open my first present from them- a bottle of my favourite non alcoholic wine and OH opened a boxed set of cheeses- he loves his cheese so was happy with that. It all went downhill when I opened a box of liqeur chocolates and OH a gift set of Werther's Originals :rotfl: I was utterly bemused why they would give me alcohol free wine knowing I can't have alcohol and then buy me liqeur chocolates :rotfl:

The present that has made me laugh (secretly ;)) today has been my DD getting a sleeveless jacket which is striped and with a hood that looks like it's a tiger. Very cute....only next birthday she will be 13!

She was very polite about it, as she is used to ermmmm [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] unusual presents from [STRIKE]my husband's side of the family[/STRIKE] certain relatives.

On the way home I suggested it went into her dressing up box as she attends weekly drama classes in case it ever came in as a costume for a production. DD's reply was 'Can't think of what play it would ever come in for, but I suppose I can keep it just in case we ever put on 'Winnie The Pooh, The Musical' :rotfl::rotfl:

For a Secret Santa gift about 15 years ago I received a 4-pack of Babycham, of which there were only 3 bottles included.

  • A very unpleasant senior manager where I worked once received a Secret Santa gift of a Mug with 'World's Best Boss printed on it, unfortunately when he tipped it and drank from it, it had I'm a C U Next Tuesday printed on the bottom. I never found out who gave it but it gave me a laugh.
My 3 worst gifts were a 4 pack of AA batteries with 2 missing, a set of miniscule plastic pegs the sort for hanging cards and from my now Ex MIL a book entitled 'Winston Churchill, The War Years'. I'm female and was 22 at the time. She'd asked my husband what to buy me and he's suggested a biography!

  • Not a worst present exactly, but my elderly parents forgot to buy me anything last year. They remembered my husband and children though.

So this year, I bought something for me that they could give to me at Christmas. Dad was happy for me to do this as he feels its too much for them to go shopping now. He paid for it.

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago dad Facebooked me to apologise because he'd managed to throw my present away by mistake!

Guess I'm not getting anything again this year!!!!!
