Agree (for data)... When it roams on T-mobile in the states, it is awful!
I bought a t-mobile SIM whilst in Chicago 3 years ago (before feel at home, it was one of the cheapest alternatives) and one of the biggest problems was data speed back then - I'm surprised people use it over there as it's got no better!0 -
A free Three PAYG sim and top up £10 on their "all in one" (or whatever it's called) bolt on
Works for us. Data included too
(You can do the £20 bolt on for more data/minutes/texts)

I was told that you had to have that active foe 30 days before you could use it abroad.
The way around it was to take out a monthly sim only contract. £14 a month, activate it, it gives you practically all the minutes and data you would need, phone up and cancel it straight away so you only pay the first month.
Worked for us for a week in Florida. I had data at 3G every day which was a great help with Google maps for directions.
Mind I have gone onto 3 permanently now as the "feel at home" works great for us. 15 countries that let you just use your regular plan minutes and data. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
We used a 3 PAYG SIM abroad two weeks ago.
I went into a local 3 shop and asked if there was any waiting period for Data roaming, and they confirmed that there wasn't. I could use it immediately after it was activated.
We bought and activated the SIM a day before we traveled, and the Roaming worked just fine for us (France & Ireland).0 -

What rental car sites can you use to book with Dollar at TI. oooh - and Canter's is coming back, too.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I ordered a couple of Three sims online a couple of years ago, and they had to have been registered 30 days in advance of using the "Feel At Home" service in the US.
This may have changed now, and it may be that there is no waiting period if you get the sim card in a Three store (costs £1 I believe) rather than online.0
