Going to Vegas for the first time in 12 years in a few weeks time and I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I'm going to read through this informative thread when I get a minute but I was wondering, as I've heard conflicting stories, is it still possible to get 'free' drinks when you gamble in the casino's by tipping the waitress?

And any recomendations for shows/stuff to do/places to eat greatly appriciated!

    Thanks!

    hi
and someone from edinburgh i assume?
    anyhow as regards your questions
regarding the *free* drinks in theory you are right, but you are gambling(maybe winning but maybe losing too) and well its normally a $1 a drink ,so keep quite a few single dollar bills whenever you areout and about !

Buffets are always a good option i feel, 1 price, eat as much as you like !
i do like the mgm grand buffet
As for shows i do like david copperfield at the mgm and have seen him twice!
There are tixfortonight booths ( one is pretty close to the mgm )which offer discounted tickets for shows normally that same or next day !

sadly not stayed at the luxor but like most casino s in vegas its pretty huge!
what flights have you gone for?
hope this helps and of course ask away in regards other questions and im sure somone will be able to help

Ive booked with low cost usa before when have visited vegas a few years ago. Just noticed some great prices for wynn and encore for next year. The price states * no resort fee charged*
Would this mean the price quoted includes the resort fee? Anyone booked with them before and had this? Just wondering if they would try and charge me this at the hotel direct?

I stayed at the encore in july with no resort fees and didnt have to argue at the desk. They were wiped before we checked out.

  • So despite thinking we might stay somewhere new, I think we're going to wind up at Vdara again, in a City Corner Suite. We've been spoilt by staying here before and really like the spacious room and living area. We're not people who just need a bed to crash on, we enjoy relaxing in our room too... There don't seem to be many other Strip properties which offer this at the same price point.

Will book a room on free cancellation and hope for a great deal to come along in the future and save even more :)

However Palms looks really interesting and I'll keep an eye on prices for it, has anyone stayed there? Does being just out of walking distance of the Strip really become a bit of a pain?

Don't know about the price point, but the Venetian has lovely all - suite rooms.

Not completely sure how they compare, but a Venetian suite really only has a seating area (which is sort of sunk in down a couple of steps). While it is lovely, I think the Vdara suites are more like mini apartments, including a kitchen and a fridge. I must admit I quite like having this option in Vegas, particularly if on a long stay (and a washing machine lol).

We're staying at Luxor in November for a week, it has been a while since we have stayed in a hotel for that long, particularly without a car. I'm wondering how it will work. We won't have a fridge, I like to have a few soft drinks etc in the room, but with no fridge I'm not sure. I can imagine they will be super expensive from the shops in Luxor. Years ago we used to stay at Planet Hollywood (more when it was Aladdin) and at least had ABC downstairs, so I could go and get a snack and a smoothie for breakfast really cheaply if we didn't want to go out for breakfast. Being vegetarian, we don't tend to enjoy breakfasts out, although buffets are ok but will be expensive on the strip.
  • Team Washer Dryer! ;)

I think the main thing for us is separate living and bedroom areas. I know it can sound a bit luxurious, but we do make use of the room and enjoy it. Other 'apartment' style rooms tend be hideously more expensive, compared to a Vdara Suite or City Corner Suite at the Vdara.

    hi

i can understand you wanting a few soft drinks and i know how exspensive they can be but i found the shop grand canyon, which is beside the mgm ,(not mega far from the luxor) quite a good price
if i recall it was 2 bottles of coke (i think they were 510mls) for either $2 or $3 which i found good value so it worked out either a $1 or $1.5 a bottle,
    hope this helps.

have you been to vegas in november before?know what the weather is like about that time?
Im sorta toying with the idea of usuing Mlife offers(and myvegas) for a break in november, IF i can find good price on flights

We too make the most of the separate living area. This is especially true for the first few days, as my husband and I adapt differently to jet lag.

MGM Sig 1 bed is our room of choice, and we are very happy with everything about MGM Sig. Also MGM Sig is always that littler bit per night cheaper than Vdara. However, I am always very tempted to try Vdara. My only issue is that I will fall in love, and Vdara will become our 1st choice.

:) me and mrs sm have the same thing with jetlag... I'll have a look at the Sig, thanks... though I reckon we'd prefer to stay that little bit further up the strip.
