An update and thanks to those who advised me last week. I bit the bullet and booked a week in December. I know the weather will be cool but there are still plenty of things to pass the time.

    Now a little hotel searching.

We too are going in December, having been previously at that time of the year, and although the weather is unpredictable there is still loads to do. And if you're there during NFR you've also got cowboys and cowgirls as really good company - I hope you have a great time.
  • Thanks Blacktwo, I have just googled what NFR is and we are there 2 weeks later. I have been to Vegas a number of times in the Winter and Summer months never in Dec though.

    Enjoy your trip:)

How's your trip going Lesley? Made any new friends at happy hour? ;) jet lag better now? :)

Did you download the Cityzen phone app to get those daily free drinks? :)

Yes, all going well. No more friends at happy hour, we didn't go for a few days, but did get a message from the happy hour person on their last night...but we were already out somewhere. We went down last night but only for a glass of (awful) wine. Haven't done the app as too many drink options anyway.

We headed over to Burger Brasserie for their happy hour, got in and 550pm, finishes at 6. Their Caipirinhas were great last time. So we waited and the guy took our order. Then took several others orders and still no sign of our drinks. Then at 6pm, two drinks appeared in front of us. Right before this I saw the bartender with the cane syrup and Ketel One in his hand at the same time. Cachaca has quite a distinct flavour, and I could tell right away we had been served two drinks made with vodka. When I said to the bartender he totally denied it and said it was made with Leblon, but offered to make it up again. He then said they couldn't find any Cachaca in any of the bars in Paris. So that confirmed it couldn't have been cachaca. He then just said did we want something else. This was almost 20 mins after our original order. I was quite !!!!ed off so we just left. We hadn't paid anything yet anyway (thank goodness!).

We then headed over to Lombardi's to book for lunch next day. Asked to make a reservation for 'tomorrow' and it caused mass confusion. Eventually got booked.

Then as we wandered around we decided to stop at La Salsa for a drink. We seemed to be completely invisible at the bar, so walked out. Headed over to Bellagio for the 2/1 myvegas buffet. Added the drink package which is still 12.99 (surprisingly cheaper than MGM which is now 15.99). Good buffet. Played a little in the casino, then headed over to Forum Shops to find shoes I had seen at Fashion Show Mall that were out of stock in my size. We then headed over to the Lobby Bar at Cromwell for a drink. Spotted there was live music the previous night so decided to go see (and could use TR points). Quite expensive at $21 for a wine and a beer, but it was quite nice. Singer only lasted two songs and finished though so we didn't time it very well. Probably 1130 or so we got back so I think this was our latest night of the trip!! :rotfl:

Backtracking a little, on Monday we did the MGM buffet for breakfast, then went to the pool. Then we took the monorail up to Harrah's/Linq (because we still had 24 hour pass), and went to Maggiano's and El Segundo Sol. The flatbread was amazing. Cocktails were nice too. They have done away with the Lemon Drop though. I don't think they had pomegranate martini before so that may be the replacement. Then wandered around Fashion Show Mall, then back to the hotel.

Has taken me a week to get over the jetlag, and I've had another broken sleep last night so not very good. Haven't been feeling great half the time, and when I did feel ok one morning I went out for a jog and knocked myself ill! Wasn't too hot at the start of the trip, but warmed up at the weekend. It was quite cool (almost cold) last night when we were walking back. Ok it was cold, I wished I had a cardigan on, which is weird for Vegas. 2 more nights then home. Hopefully I don't get the jetlag coming home. Arrive back quite late Saturday night and we're at the Davis Cup on Sunday.

Can you tell us about this Cityzen app please nvh? Is it one of thise things you can only download in the USA?
It's showing up on the iphone appstore for me here in the UK (look for "Cityzen Rewards" by "Parkway") - basically, sign up and use the promo code HR0000 when registering.

The app will then offer you free drinks each day at at least 4 places around Linq (I forget exactly which ones - Chayo and AmeriCAN are two of them though). You can have pretty much whatever drink you want it seems

Every day, at 7am, the clock on the app resets, and you can go back to the places you were the day before, and have some more free drinks.

People I spoke to were basically going from bar to bar down the linq claiming their free drinks, then repeating it each day when the clock resets.

I only used it once, but can verify it works :)

yeah - they have cards they can give you at the bar (these will probably have different promotion codes on, but they all work the same way) :)
  • Does anyone have any tips/advice for booking and travelling on internal US flights? Is there anything non-Americans need to be aware of?

(That's if Trump even lets us in, if he wins :D )

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • Got back from my first LV trip last week, but wife came back with an infection which developed into septecemia so she's been in hospital all week.

However, just wanted to post that when we checked into Excalibur we were offered a room upgrade immediately, 'for only $20 per night' :D:.
After I looked mournful for a moment and said I wasn't sure that my budget would stretch to that (cue my OH looking sad) he comped the upgrade anyway. No guarantee it'll happen to everyone, but worth playing the poor man card if they ask you!
I hope your wife is recovering well.
