  • Another £2.69 spent on necessities yesterday, so my sig is creeping up. Today I sit down to plan my shopping list and tweak my mealplan to waste less and include some hot lunches. I want to rotate all the tins in my storecupboard so there's going to be some interesting lunches coming up!

With the chicken stock I made last week from the bones and skin from the thigh, I'll add some chopped, fried chorizo and some drained, tinned butterbeans and make some soup. For dinner, I took a small beef joint out to roast and will do all the trimmings. That'll give us some more meals for the week too. Meal plan for the coming week is as follows (so far, and it may get tweaked):

    Monday - Hot beef baguettes
Tuesday - Sweet & Sour Chicken with Noodles
    Wednesday - Fajitas
    Thursday - Shepherd's Pie
Friday - Lasagne with Garlic Bread (already made and in freezer)
Saturday - Chicken Curry with Rice
Sunday - Sausage Casserole with Mash & Veg

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Another £9.48 spent on basics, so total to date is £69.22/£400, which I'm really pleased with.

I'll need to spend a little this week on essentials, but the Freezers, fridge and larder are slowly becoming emptier.

We're hoping to move house in a few weeks, if the purchase goes through okay, so the less food we have in the house, the better. :)

I bought a couple of chocolate yule logs at Christmas which the children are not that keen on but will eat if there's nothing else. The ubd is today - would I be able to freeze them?

    £41.78 for this week :)
  • Just revisited the monthly meal plan to check nothing will go to waste in the fridge. :)

1st grocery shop of the year being delivered 8-9pm tonight and it has everything for the next 10 days.

I'll update my signature when it comes as I don't allow substitutes, so it's often less than planned if one or two things are unavailable.

If they are covered in butter cream, then yes.
If they are covered in icing, the no.
Or ping them for a few seconds and add cream serve like hot fudge cake.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Big shopping day today, main weekly shop done for £54.30p but we bought in quite a few bits that will last way more than the week, like cereal and frozen meat substitutes, all of which were on offer :) Also found a lot of YS cans in the reduced section, of various beans and coconut milk, which we use a lot of! So they will keep in the cupboard :)

Also have to count DS1's lunch money and £2.50p taxi home, so total is £66.80 of £70, but we only need coffee (79p) and dog food (£2) so should be okay for the rest of the week as this was a massive shop and we have plenty in! :)

    Menu plan for the week:
    Sunday: Chickenless roast
Monday: Mixed bean burritos with either HM wedges or rice
Tuesday: Shepherds Pie-tatos (baked potatoes, scooped out and filled with (quorn) mince, mashed potatoes on top with a sprinkle of cheese then popped back in the oven)
    Wednesday: Vegetable lasagne
Thursday: Quorn "chicken" curry and rice (DS1 is making this at school cookery class)
    Friday: Pizza night
Saturday: Southern style "chicken" burgers, HM chips and beans.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone and good luck for the next week :)

Great meal plan. I'm going to try a Mexican night this week as I bought some avocados and a lime about 2 weeks ago to make guacamole and didn't get round to it! My kids are not keen on spicy/curry meals but I'm trying to get them to accept them gradually so we can all eat the same things.

Went badly off plan late November, December was OK, trying to get back on track now. Making turkey and leek soup and done shopping this week, as always it's not the basic food that adds up the £££ but the extras like drinks, biscuits, crisps and "just in case" items! Will update signature later but aiming for £360 in the month.
