I could always go back to Puppy (which, eventually, saved the desired screen res), and continue to faff about trying to install Flash

virgo - yes, I did appy then Save, but it appears it's a known issue that it doesn't...

dcm - I've been through that many distros this weekend, I can't remember if it's using Grub or not :rotfl: actually, think it is, even though Lubuntu is the only thing on the hdd. Question - if it was set in grub, would Lubuntu just override that as it was loading?

    GJ,

Perhaps it's a KMS (kernel mode setting) issue, what is the GPU, Intel IGP ?

Handy link to Arch Wiki, they do very good general Wikis:

    Not worth spending £7 for (2x1GB) DDR-333 PC2700 Non-ECC low density RAM?

Of course I am guessing as to the model.

I have a pile of old RAM in the draw, assumed it was worthless because the price plummets when new stuff comes out. But then after a while it picks up again and then plummets again as nobody wants it.

    Have children ?

Then why not attach them to a couple of sticks with some string and now you have a high tech ceiling mobile to entertain them for hours that's zero cost and environment friendly.

    :)
