I have just purchased on-line, a rather expensive cycling top from a major supplier. When it has arrived it didn't look right, it didn't have the usual collection of information danglies connected with the plastic ties, only a tag from the shop with the item code and the price. On further inspection there was a (well used) bandanna tucked away in the pocket. I know I can get my money back but would you expect any form of compensation for this awful level of service?
    thanks
Duh, 1 million dollars of course!!!!

Obviously I have suffered no loss or hardship, just a bit peeved off that they have tried to pass something off as new which has, not only been used but had something in the pocket!! I guess you could argue that a used shirt is only worth half or 2/3 the value of a new one.
So you're looking for compensation for "peevement". You have absolutely no way of knowing that they tried to pass something off as new. Most probably a simple mistake.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

It could be a mistake or it could be deliberate, I'd have a bit of a moan and try to get some sort of goodwill gesture.

I believe that the company that sent the secondhand goods might have done it deliberately. If they did why shouldn't the OP be given some discount on a new one to compensate for their inconvenience. If it was a mistake then perhaps the same thing applies but they would then be compensating for their incompetence.
Why do you believe the company might have sent the 2nd hand goods deliberately?
Your first post didn't state that & the OP hasn't been back to confirm or deny it.

Why do you think it was a mistake? This happens all the time a company takes back something without checking it then they pass it on so they don't lose money.

You have proof and links to examples of this practice or is it just your opinion?

What difference is there between a customer trying on something at home or trying something on in store?

Those in store could have been tried on by dozens of people, yet I don't think your average consumer deems those to be second hand/used goods.

However, the upside of retailers allowing consumers to try on garments is that we don't have to guess our size or guess how said garment would look on us.

Do you have proof that it doesn't happen?

There's a massive difference between trying on and wearing for a day.

:rotfl: If only you'd seen some of the gross stuff I have (and I don't even work in retail). For example, a friend bought a pair of jeans from a well known department store and well (no other way to describe it) it looked like someone had worn them for a week while menstruating. Until you opened them out at the waist to put them on, there was no obvious signs that they had been used or even tried on.

The upside is we get returns policies and to try on clothes before we buy. The downside is all of the above.

And all of the above is also why I check clothes over carefully & wash them before wearing them.

Anyway, did the bandana have a little note attached telling the OP how long it had been worn? ;)

    I didn't say I thought it was a mistake. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I just wondered why you went from posting it might have been a mistake or deliberate and then posted to say you thought it was deliberate. smiley-confused013.gif

The OP did not provide any additional information between your 2 posts.
