Hi,
My SIL has a tablet that he only uses for searching on shopping sites, but never buys anything on there, my DH buys on the laptop. So, he hasn't any personal info on the tablet.
When he turned it on today, a scam police message came up, saying they knew all about the !!!!!! sites he'd visited, and told him to pay them £ 100.
The trouble is, he can't get if off. It's stopped him from getting into his tablet. He turned it off, but as soon as he turns it back on, it's there. Does anyone know what he can do please?
Thanks,
Candy.

HOW TO GET RID OF ANDROID RANSOMWARE:
Do not pay the ransom. Report what has happened to NetSafe on 0508 NETSAFE or report it online.
Turn your phone off and then switch it on again into safe mode. You may also need to Google the model of your device and the term "safe mode" to find a manual or guide online. Common ways to boot into safe mode include holding the power button and volume button up or down during the power-on process, depending on the age of your device.
Once in safe mode, find the rogue application installed on the device and remove it. Common malicious app names include BaDoink or Video Diwnlodar.
Restart the phone normally to check the infection has been cleared. You may need expert technical help if the lock screen remains.0 -

Restart the tablet and go into config, turn off wifi then go into the browser. Delete all open pages including the blackmail one then turn back on wifi.0

Given that Netsafe are a New Zealand organisation this is pointless advice. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you've just googled then copied and pasted the result without bothering to assess it, but I suggest that you take a bit more care in future.
