Thanks Lynne, you're so sweet to everyone:A
Trust me, I'm no saint:o. I just remember what it was like for my Mum after my Dad died. They were inseparable and like many housewives of her generation she never learned to drive. She stayed living in the family home on her own for about 8 years, she was fiercely independent, but it was a bit isolated and almost 100 miles from me so I couldn't just go at the drop of a hat to take her to places. Her mind was razor sharp even in her 80s but she used to get so depressed being alone.
I discovered a volunteer drivers group for her near her home and it made an amazing difference to the quality of her last few years. She never seemed to be in when I phoned, she was always out on some jaunt or another:rotfl:. That's really why I do it in my neck of the woods. Some of the people I drive are younger than me but seem much older because their isolation and loneliness has made them 'give up'.. At least I have a car and am still reasonably fit and active. Having more money to do more of what I'd like would be nice;) but not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars:j0 -

that £10 cheque I was talking about arrived today, so now I'll add it to total.
Also finally got my tesco shop and the fresh figs I asked for were on the last day (and no other packs available) so the manager refunded me the £2 but still sent me the figs. I don't mind - fruit lasts a little past its day anyway and I can always freeze them to use in smoothies so for me it's just +£2
Day: £12
Month: £297.19 / 310 (12.92/day avg)
only £12.81 to go!
