Thanks for that Lb - I WAS going to do Amaripoff listings - but I think I'll have to think about it now !

I don't understand how all those 1p listings can possibly be worthwhile tho'

The short answer is, they aren't! It's these 1p sellers that have spoiled it for the rest of us:eek:! They are usually big business sellers though and get all sorts of preferential rates in various areas(fees, postage etc). Many of them buy-in huge amounts of books for pennies anyway so just a few reasonable sales out of a batch and they recoup their outlay. A lot get books for free from recyclers etc. Whichever way you look at it, though, a 1p book can only make a few coppers profit for them if they got it for nothing in the first place and it is so thin and light that they could send it as a large Letter;)

I personally would never bother playing that game;). Unless I can make even a small real profit on Amazon I sell at car boot sales or I donate the books to charity. Can't afford the time or storage space otherwise. I have also noticed that the book-buying sites like WeBuyBooks etc are offering a derisory amount for some of the books I attempt to price with them and I've gone on to sell them on Amazon myself for an actual profit of over £5 a time:j.

I'd still rather follow the Amazon route where listing is so quick and easy and problems with rogue or non-paying buyers don't happen. The eBay route is far more trouble, listing takes much longer and, from what lots of posters have reported on here, chancers and non-paying buyers seem to be everywhere. You've had them yourself, Procrastinater;)

It's your choice, obviously, Procrastinater, but I can assure you that I've made a few thousands clear profit over the past few years and if you are patient and savvy it definitely does work. You have to choose which books to list, niche titles/subjects are where the money is:T. It's like anything else, you win some you lose some;). From what lexbubbles said she only attempted to sell a book there and hasn't had any/much long-time experience of actually doing it as a regular thing. I view it as something of a long-game.

I wouldn't want to try to influence you but I am and will continue to be a big Amazon Marketplace fan:beer:

Urgh! Just check my interest rates for various savings pots and they are (quite frankly) pants! Time to shop around or at least get in touch with my bank and building society to see what they can offer me.
I had a look on Quidco and there are no decent cashback deals worth investigating there.
    Hmm. Thinking cap on.
Interest pays out on the ones I've got 31st Dec and I'm guessing I'll lose out if I move before then so I'll move to the best pot and sort in the New Year.
Sure they had much better rates when I opened them over the years but they've clearly dropped and no notification.

CBC, I tried webuybooks and just got "we aren't buying this title" over and over again. A dozen books in (including ones which go for £12+ on Amazon) I questioned whether they actually buy anything at all ever and closed the tab :rotfl:

Yeah, I'm attempting to sell stuff, but I still don't see how 15% PLUS 99p is in any way a justifiable fee structure at any price. 15% OR 99p whichever is greater maybe

I mean christ Discogs only charge 8% (no additional, no charge on postage fee) and they're not a massive tax-dodging company raking in millions every day. If they can afford to do it...

ETA I've also only had I think maybe 5 non-paying eBayers in the last decade. Had quite a few say items never arrived but if they don't pay for tracked postage they have no recourse for a refund.

this is typical of the banking world.... they never tell you when interest rates drop and call you in to talk about better accounts etc.

it is upto the poor consumer to shop around :mad:

Have a look at Nationwide regular saver. Its paying 5% pre tax.

Opened an account myself as I am going on a girly holiday Oct next year for our 5oth birthdays and I am designated banker for our savings.

Money in Natwest at mo earning bot all.

A big thanks to all of you for warm welcome! It will be nice to share how I earn a little extra online with others with similar thinking. People in "real" life think I'm crazy and don't quite get it.

    More fools them! lol

My goals are to put any extra into hol savings till May when me and OH got to Corfu for two weeks. After that....I want to start overpaying my mortgage. Have 10 years left but do NOT want to be paying it till I am 59. Even if I can knock a few years off....it will be a bonus.

yep am fed up with trying to tell friends about ways to make money. Only Xanders' Mum understands lol, being a fellow mser. I do have one friend who joined the facebook group but again hard work trying to get her to do anything that would help her out financially too.

so pull up a pew/cushion/poofee/sofa/deckchair your choice of seat and join in with us mad people who actually want a better life not relying on it to drop out of the sky.

I think lynnejk is a prime example of making it work.

and you will overpay that mortgage!:money:
  • Yep.......I have a few friends that are really struggling and could do with a little extra......but I've given up telling people...their eyes glaze over and think it's too much effort for a few pennies.

Me and OH arent on brilliant wages but we are now comfortable and the most financially secure we have ever been but there is always room for improvement and I have always been keen on something for nothing....or a bargain. Don't think that will ever change.:D
