Nice! Another FIRE starter? I am planning to do that myself. I am currently building my broad diversified base. How many % of your allocation are you allowing yourself to pick stocks? How far are you from FI based on the 4%?
I am sure there must be quite a few of us on here. :j
Very little in direct shares (only the £6k for this year's allowance).
I dislike that much risk usually.
Just this year I felt an unshakeable urge to go into oil and gas and followed it.
The rest is in pensions, various investment funds, and investment bonds.
As far as how close I am to target, I am very exposed to the markets and dependent on their performance.
I measure it across all my investments on a daily basis and average the results to forecast a smooth trend across decades.
This is not very accurate but does give me a strategic plan for my own future decades ahead.
I don't panic when the markets dip as I can see roughly when they'll recover and advance again.
I think I've already arrived at my 'safe' point, I'm just really hanging on to convince myself that my safety net is appropriate.
I have definitely secured my retirement already, but I want my investments to generate enough to continue using my whole ISA allowances and, through this, pass on some of my wealth to my Nephew and Niece (having no kids of my own) and their families to help them start out in future.
They are not yet aware.
I am also using my primary (only) property as an investment, with the idea of cashing in and moving away from London some time in the next five to ten years.
Have been putting time towards looking around my favourite areas of the U.K. to get an idea of where I might re-locate when the time comes.
I have enough that I am thinking of buying a second property abroad as well, but may decide against that;
The investment rules of my retirement planning require me to remain a U.K. resident.
So I will not be able to simply cash in and emigrate, as I would like.
I may keep the cash and travel more widely and frequently instead.
How about yourself?

hi, i am looking to change my bank account, which is the best for me ??? with £12000 savings and about £1,200 per month going into it, with numerous utility bills going out, not sure how much i will save each month, say around £300 and i never overdraw
You would be better advised to start a separate thread for this in the Savings section.
Folks will want to know more about your circumstances as well (things like your age, how long you can invest for, your attitude to risk, etc).

Well, actually my life is not that changing...I just had a bit of a LBM after reading several trades in this forum. So, first of all, thank you to all the posters for being so motivating, passionate and supportive
Coming to my resolutions, during this weekend I've taken two main steps:
- Open a H2B ISA and fed in £1200. I'll keep feeding in £200/month till
- Open a Regular Saver with NW, which I'll drip feed from my NW once-so-good-now-no-more bank account at a rate of £500/month
So, I should probably change my signature for the savigs, considering only what I put in these two accounts for the challenge (as they're quite easy to control and keep track of). In December I'll do a proper review of my money, and add to the two savings account whatever else I managed to save this year.
So, can I ask you to update my goal to &=£7300? And reset to £0 the amount saved so far?GC £~~/3000 -
Bit late to the party but finally updating for March!
I managed to save £500, which was decent considering I was out and about a lot during March.
April isn't looking to great, income has slowed right down. This is the downside to freelancing. Trying other ways to increase my income and doing lots of spring cleaning so hope to sell a few bits and bobs. Got a little bit coming in from cash back websites but expecting to save little to nothing this month, maybe even need to dip into the savings!
Overall still doing well for the year but keeping positive with saving is becoming a challenge!

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the forum & just was just wondering if I'm too late to join?
I'm trying to save £12,000 this year hopefully, currently at £22000 -

I don't think you're too late - the thread is regularly updated (seems to be weekly).
I only recently noticed the links at the bottom of the list of members involved though.
Would probably make it easier for 'slowlyfading' to keep track if you completed the form (I made the same mistake, so be assured that I'm not criticising just trying to help both of you).
Good luck with your goal.
