How's it going everyone, while I am not speaking much, I am subscribed and when I wake up I look forward to reading everyone's updates, now for me, while this isn't a cold hard cash saving, and it will not be included in the title, I managed to save £250 on my car insurance! So previously my savings this month was looking a bit short, but I should be able to save a bit more now!

Good luck everyone! I will do my form at the end of the month :)

Well done Brad on saving money on your car insurance, £250 too, really does go to show how dirty some of these companies are. Nice one

Not a great start to the year. It was my wife's birthday in January and I went a bit overboard so I'm actually in a worse position than when i started. Ho hum. The target end of year balance stands.

I've noticed TSB has its switch offer on again so I've opened two Tesco savings accounts and set up DDs on a 'donor' Nationwide account that I've had sitting around for a while. I'll apply for TSB once the first payments have been debited.

Plan then is to immediately move £1,900 to TSB (to be augmented with the free £100 from the switcher offer to make the max interest bearing balance) from my dismal paying First Direct eSaver, and open a TSB regular saver for £250 a month at 5%.

Total committed monthly savings are then £300 FD + £500 NW + £250 TSB = £1,050 plus whatever I can sidle away on top. An old whisky sleeve is on the side ready to collect any loose change to be cashed in when it gets full.

Time to cut back and be confident!

Oh I nearly forgot. I've applied to switch our broadband as we're coming out of our super cheap EE contract. Moving to BT for the £120 quidco (which will go to savings) and £50 prepaid MasterCard (which is £50 I'd have otherwise spent). Line rental paid in advance and just the £5 monthly broadband cost coming out of the bank account so pleased with that.

New to forum, used the website for advice the past few months.
    Just signed up!

Aiming to save £12k this year. Looking to save for a house deposit.

Plan is to utilise mine and my girlfriends Halifax Help to Buy ISAs, switching to the Halifax Reward Account for everyday use, as well as the £160 overall switch bonus.

Just switched a secondary account to First Direct for £150 incentive and access to the 6% Regular Saver.

Contemplating a donor account to switch to TSB for the £100 switch and 5% current account for £2k and access to the 5% Regular Saver for any money left over.

Can't see any flaws in the plan, so thats the aim!

Are you moving because the super cheap EE is awful? :D I had it, because you can't really sniff at £3 a month, but it got so bad I upgraded to their fibre. And I pray every day I don't need to call them. They have one of the worst call centres I've ever had to deal with...

Good on you for moving and so sensibly :)

Goodness January is a long month. Both I and OH don't get paid until next week so at the moment my spending tracker is looking a bit sad as most of our outgoings go out at the beginning of the month and we don't get paid until near the end. On the plus side though OH has been given a pay rise and a yearly bonus both payable this month so should be higher than average salary. Also cannot believe we have only spent £130 on the credit card this month so far on food and nothing else. That is so much less than normal. Have put a deposit on a holiday though from our holiday fund.

I always find my food bill is a lot less in January. I've usually got a fridge full of cheese and other Christmas treats that are still hanging round while, ironically, I am trying to shed the Christmas weight! :D

    Hi Boboski

I'm moving because the price is moving, northwards, significantly. We do have some performance issues with EE, especially if streaming on a Sunday evening, but EE is just repackaged BT Wholesale broadband so I'm not sure whether we'll get a performance improvement. We can't get fibre or cable so are stuck with ADSL. Motivated by price as much as anything else, so while a credit cAED payment of £200 ish was hard to swallow, can't argue with an effective cost of about £8 a month provided both the MasterCard and quidco arrive.

As for the EE call centre, I have only had to speak to them once, and that was to find out my contract end date. They could not have been nicer and were not pushy at all. I've had issues with BT in the past but £8 a month including line rental! And BT will own EE soon anyway...
