It does work that way, doesn't it Tara?

But also as one gets older, one "needs" less. Okay this year we needed a new boiler, but that is going to reduce our fuel spending, and it looks like our fridge may be on its last legs and soon need replacing, but there is not a spot in my home for another painting or drawing, so that's out. My cars (yes, I have one for summer and one for winter) are 17 and 14 years old respectively, but absolute classics of excellent engineering, an SLK roadster and a Honda CR-V, and I don't do many miles in them. We normally don't spend a great deal on holidays, but we go away 3/4 times a year for a week on the boat - next year will be different though, a big blow out for our ruby wedding.

Congrats on the ruby wedding! :)

I'm only in my 30s, but I'm definitely in the 'happy with my lot' club :D I have pretty much everything I want. I just don't crave "stuff" the way lots of people seem to.

Haven't updated for a couple of months as I wasn't sure how much I could put away. Anyway, after jacking my job in and finding a new one without actually being unemployed, a car service, additional work on my car, and to top it off..car insurance, my figures are 587.84 for July and 335.78 for August bringing my total for the year to 5,582.51 or 62.03% which I'm quite chuffed with and have updated the form

Hi SF, i have saved some money this month (£800) but i was that much down few months ago as paid for centre parcs, so can you just keep my total the same :). Thanks xx

Husband is working overtime this month and im being more frugal on shopping so hoping we can end this year on a high. At a push i was thinking £10k-12k for the year, but i think we can hit £15k if we are keep going as we are. Weve never saved over £22k before (used on house deposit) so maybe by mid '17 i can celebrate on smashing my prev record . Although im no where near your amount Tara and Lisa, i completely agree on the less spending the more you have :p.

Hope everyone else doing ok - soon be August!

    xx

    Hi all,

#025 declaring £500 for June and £500 for July.

Apologies being late providing the updates, I've submitted the form for both June and July.

Hi everyone, quite a momentous month for me as I finally join tara747's 100k Club!

In July there were a few car related costs plus a deposit for a holiday next year and a loan to no.1 son who is moving flat and underestimated his moving costs. Also I put some money into our works awayday, and had a very expensive taxi ride home after an unexpected hospital stay!

So I'm declaring £1120.28 for July. Total savings £100,380 - which means 3 years 2 months to go until FIRE. Have to say a massive thank you to Slowlyfading for running this thread, which has really helped with keeping a focus on savings these last few years.

    Happy saving everyone.

Hi everyone and congrats to those of you who have reached the £100k milestone, what a massive achievement for you!

I submitted my form update a few days back but only just found time/inclination to sit down and write a post. I'm just £100 away from achieving this years target which is incredibly satisfying, even though it was only a low target (we knew we had a lot of expenses for house maintenance to deal with this summer, so I kept it low on purpose). The plan was to leave my target as it is and top up my rainy day fund for the remainder of the year, however, I realised with this last update that my regular saver means that, most likely, I'll continue putting money into my long term savings... Not entirely sure yet how I will choose to manage things so I won't formally increase the target, i'll just exceed it instead! ;)

EDIT: missed out £200 from my calculations! So I'm only £177 down this month :rotfl: I'll amend my figures.

    New July update:

-£177 for July, £6,159 so far in 2016 and £101,366 in total.

    Sorry, slowlyfading! :o

congratulations on reaching the £100k mark. I got there a few years ago but am in my 50s so well impressed someone in their 30s has got there. We too like expensive holidays so we might have made it earlier but we approach retirement with it which was our plan all along to retire with no mortgage, £100k in the bank and pensions but having enjoyed ourselves along the way.

Kids, expensive holidays and houses did get in the way a bit but we got there in the end ;)

    Enjoy your well earned holiday.
