hi all, just wanted to say this morning I saved a further £550, which means my new total is £15,430.02, so I have reached my target!! :j:j:j Very happy. :) I could at this point set a new target but think I will do what I did last year and just see how much I can pass my original target by. Yippee!! :)
  • So I managed to change the date off one of my standing orders so I need to update my July total to £2,164.

    Hurray!!

    Hi All,
Once again I put a £1k away into two regular savers but I am not going to account it again as September I have the second half of the holiday to pay. (£1700).
September I will look at what I have in my bank account and subtract what I started with, to find my actual savings after paying for big hols.

Hi everyone, quite a momentous month for me as I finally join tara747's 100k Club!

In July there were a few car related costs plus a deposit for a holiday next year and a loan to no.1 son who is moving flat and underestimated his moving costs. Also I put some money into our works awayday, and had a very expensive taxi ride home after an unexpected hospital stay!

So I'm declaring £1120.28 for July. Total savings £100,380 - which means 3 years 2 months to go until FIRE. Have to say a massive thank you to Slowlyfading for running this thread, which has really helped with keeping a focus on savings these last few years.

    Happy saving everyone.

Woo hoo, welcome to the £100K Club! :D Congratulations geoffers4, you must be thrilled:beer:

What does FIRE mean, btw? Something to do with financial independence...?

congratulations on reaching the £100k mark. I got there a few years ago but am in my 50s so well impressed someone in their 30s has got there. We too like expensive holidays so we might have made it earlier but we approach retirement with it which was our plan all along to retire with no mortgage, £100k in the bank and pensions but having enjoyed ourselves along the way.

Kids, expensive holidays and houses did get in the way a bit but we got there in the end ;)

    Enjoy your well earned holiday.

Yes, it's very important to enjoy oneself along the way, no point in amassing money for the sake of it :D I'm a firm believer in spending money on what makes you happy!

Yep, pretty thrilled I must admit. FIRE = financial independence, retire early. Or if not fully retire, it might mean going part time, or just taking a break and picking up bits of work just for fun. The key aspect is complete freedom to adopt whatever lifestyle we want, knowing all the bills are covered For Life!

Oh, that sounds very attractive indeed :)

I started saving with a view to a house deposit, but my goal has changed over time and I now aim for financial freedom.

Well, I finally caved and took my car for a service. Last service was when I bought it in April 2014 (context: it's an 05 reg). Just over £1,000 total, which was very hard to swallow, but when the mechanic said the cam belt has nearly gone and it'd cost £1,500-£2,000 if it does go, I was a little more accepting of their quote! That also includes 3 new tyres, which I'm sure I'd have to replace at the next MOT anyway as they were barely legal and were advisories in my last MOT.

The garage is kindly splitting the cost into 4 installments interest-free for me, so I should still be able to save something every month, but sadly after the rubbish pay/bonus review and now this, I don't think I'll make my savings target. Still going to keep it where it is though, just in case I win all the free lotteries!
