Hi Slowyfading. Just noticed that my fig for June is incorrect on the spreadsheet. My fault as I sent the wrong fig in. My June savings were £340 not £190. I did post an email but it probably got overlooked. Sorry for any confusion:)
    Sig updated. #34
My bad! Have updated it properly now, I hope :)

Success of the week: Just managed to get RAC down from £120 renewal quote to £64, bought and paid for, in under 10 minutes on the phone. I was worst-case-scenario budgeting £100 for breakdown cover so this is a nice little boost to the month's savings :) Also, there's just something satisfying about getting 46% off from a big player like that.

I could have got the same thing for £4 less from Green Flag, after cashback, but I have had to use RAC and they were fantastic (sort of unfortunately - in a way I wanted them not to be good so I didn't want to renew with them, because they're expensive!). And with my 11 year old banger the reassurance that it'll be ok if it breaks down is getting more important each year.

    Anyway, I'm pleased :)

Tara dear, well done!! How long did that take you? Any tips??!!

It's taken me almost ten years to save this much.

    My strategy is simple:

Be content with a simple life. This is my #1 rule. I genuinely don't crave possessions. Read a bit of Marie Kondo, it'll change your thinking.
Don't let advertisers into your head! I don't buy magazines or follow celebrity gossip - there's always someone trying to make you feel bad about yourself and sell you something.
Prioritise your spending. I spend a fair bit on things I really love (travel), and very little on things I'm not that bothered about (clothes, shoes, handbags, toiletries, gadgets). I spend money on experiences rather than things, that's what makes me happy.
Set a budget. And stick to it.
Cook from scratch. I always bring a packed lunch to work, and do a lot of batch cooking. It's healthier too.
Save as much as possible. And try to earn as much interest as possible (easier said than done since 2009 - thanks BOE!).
Keep your goals in mind. When you're tempted to spend, remind yourself why you're saving and ask whether you really want to make that purchase??

Anyone want to add to these tips??

And in answer to kitjos, I've just booked an expensive holiday (somewhere I've always wanted to go) to treat myself! It'll be worth every penny :D

I am curious what is ur investing strategy and what does ur portfolio look like??
Happy to help but don't want to hog this thread and confuse those trying to track their own savings.
I'll make a separate thread in this forum and title it "ArmyDillo Strategy" later in the week.
I'm no expert though and have been able to happily exploit a lot of very lucky opportunities rather than plan them.
Even buying shares in BP and RDSA back in April and May was done in preparation for a 'Remain' vote.
I had not for one second considered either that we would be 'Leave'ing or that those companies would be heavily reliant on the dollar which would benefit me when the £ fell.
(I have since completely re-considered my approach to those, which I will also explain).

    :rotfl:
    2016 : Realised £103,000.00 savings (banked)
    2017 : Realised £97,000.00 savings (banked)
    2018 : Realised £ savings (banked)

20.4% avg annual portfolio growth since 2004.

Retired 17:30 hrs, Friday 30th September 2016, aged 56, and luvvin' it!!
