What are your standard working hoours? What industry do you work in? I am knackered today after my 9th consecutive 12 hours shifts. This is not humane.
Is that legal?? What do you do?
Mine isn't as bad as yours but not too far off at the moment. I'm a lawyer, paid a regional salary for more like London hours. My hours are supposed to be 9 to 5 but lately I've been averaging leaving at 8, no earlier than 7-something (until today) but I've certainly stayed later than 9. When my boss and I moved to this firm together it was on the understanding that my pay increase was as a reward for moving with him and a recognition that I am a valuable asset, but it was made clear that my hours were not to change.
It's the bonus that stings when he told me that was his decision (i.e. not forced by the other partners) and that's after I have worked on average one full weekend per month easily plus 50% of bank holidays (I'm talking a full day's work) since we moved plus longer days too. He tells me on a weekly basis that I'm fantastic at my job, but this is the second time in two months that his actions did not match his words in respect of rewarding my performance. Oh, and he told he several times in the last five months that he had worked the bonus into his budget for the office, so I know the money is there.
I know this isn't the biggest problem in the world but he lied to me and he's broken my trust. When you have no family and very few friends, it hurts when your boss does that...0 -
Setting myself a mini goal for the rest of July: not to buy lunch at work and take pack lunch instead! Might as well have been handing out free fivers the way I was carrying on! :wall:Plan to save £100k:

Jan 2019: 65k

200£ to my H2B ISA and 500£ to the regular saver...but I might end up dipping from my emergencies current account later this month, as I'll have to pay in the deposit for a room in a flatshare. Unless I end up living under a bridge...with London prices being what they are this option looks more and more attractiveGC £~~/3000

Totally relate to this : for 14 years I worked in an office near a M&S Food Hall, so picked up expensive sandwiches there every day instead of just making a pack lunch. The maths is frightening: 14 years x 222 working days x £5 per day = £15540. Aargh!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -

'The realest people don't have many friends' Well look on the bright side at least you now know the true value of your relationship with your boss. That will be useful in any future negotiations or decision making in the future.
Well I am a junior doctor. It is because people have been off sick and on compassionate leave, so someone has to be around to cover.. Short term safety triumphs legality I think but I feel the system should look out for us abit more.

Hi all,
Can I join in please? I'd love to save 12k this year, so far I've saved £7,817. Summer holidays are going to be low savings weeks as I have 3 children and like to spend most the time with them during school holidays so working will be minimum hours.

That is an admirable goal. Not an easy one I would say, but once it's a habit, it comes naturally. Good luck!
