Avro Energy reviews: Give your feedback

Telegraph_Sam said:Correct except that today I have agreed with the new gas supplier to give me a refund of the excess credit build up and reduce my monthly seasonal D/D to cover the SC only - which will obviously be reviewed as winter approaches. Can't complain.
On the other hand the electricity supplier has an "innovative" ToU tariff which should knock spots off Avro. Quite the reverse situation. When I had Gas with Scottish Power/Edf/British Gas I set monthly direct debit value to cover standing charge and made appropriate card payments to ensure that I was in credit at all times, when I was with your gas supplier again I set monthly direct debit level to cover standing charge and a little left over, again can make card payments to cover usage. For many people/avro customers both with smart meter/no smart meter this will be cheaper than your suppliers Smart MeterTOU tariff due to 15p day standing charge ( those with Evs ,battery storage, high usage items that get used during 5pkwh rate etc excluded) https://online.logicor.energy/ui/

The idea of a mini D/D coupled with a manual top-up is one that I have warmed to since it seems fair to both sides. Unfortunately a view not share by some suppliers who see themselves as building societies (that don't pay interest). I myself would not regard a temporary period of debt to the supplier as anything more worthy of condemnation than equivalent periods of surplus.
Comparing the various permutations of ToU tariffs is not something for the faint-hearted though I am not sure if the link you posted, which I will explore, makes this any easier. I just comfort myself with the thought that the tariff I have is well up in the vanguard with the added bonus of having an acceptable level of CS.Telegraph Sam

you only need to use 1kw in the “off peak” period to cancel out the difference in standing charge. It’s a myth that go faster is only cheaper for ev or battery storage users. It’s cheaper for most, other than extremely low electricity users or people that won’t use any energy at all in the off peak period. This is due to their extremely competitive peak prices. If they go up then yes it will become less competitive again.0 -
I suspect that I would not be alone in failing to distinguish between the Agile and Go concepts (I forget the differences!) which seem to be skewed in favour of having EV's, washing machines, dryers and discos all going full blast at 3.30 am - on the one hand - from on the other hand Go Faster which takes a much more flexible approach - once I had taken the trouble to do the research as a result of forum prompting. I have my relatively modest Go Faster 5p / kWh disco sessions at 8.30 pm. I suspect that one would have to compare relatively atypical Go Faster and Avro consumption profiles for the latter to win - but I have not done the research myself (yet)Telegraph Sam

Let's not clog up the Avro thread with discussion of Octopus and Logicor. The Logicor Energy thread is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6287793/logicor-energy(If we wish to debate the merits of ToU tariffs in general they might deserve a separate thread entirely, so we can bring Green Energy Tide into it too?)N. Out of interest, I`ve just calculated my past annual usage and although I`m £150 in credit currently, and assuming i will use the same amount of energy for the coming 12 months, Avro`s DD current monthly DD calculation is spot on.
Last year, with Avro, and being on a different cheaper tariff and paying a lot less monthly DD, twice I had to make one off payments to cover the deficit.
Incidently, today I have received my six monthly water bill and they too were spot on with the monthly DD calculations, leaving me 27pence in credit.
If these companies take note of your correct meter readings then their calculated monthly DD should be spot on.0 -
Slightly surprised this week due to many tales of woe, that with only moderate nudging, Avro have actually refunded my closing credit back to me so we are.. done!
Actual switch was June 20th.1 -

...Is that more by accident than design though? Have Avro actually adjusted your estimated annual gas usage since you joined them? I look after an account that has been with them for four years and the estimated gas usage is still exactly the same as was provided to them at the start of the contract, despite the actual usage figures given to them and used for billing having fallen somewhat.Curiosly, they have adjusted their estimate of the electricity usage, and it's currentyly about 10% lower than the last 12 month's actual. No idea how they arrive at that, but it helps even things out a bit.It has been easy to stay with them at their competitive rates with no need to contact them, but the account is building up a bit more credit than needed now, so that might need addressing, which will mean trying to contact them, as you can't adjust the DD on their website.

I have read the last 3 pages of this thread but it's all chat about Octopus and smart meters and I am just trying to find out if Avro are a decent company so what's the general thoughts on them as a company to deal with ?
I know exactly how much energy I have used in previous years and I don't have smart meters (or want them) so I'm looking for a company that wont mess me around.
Thanks
