Avro Energy reviews: Give your feedback

I've seen posts reporting that a change of tariff does not qualify as a 'switch of supplier' so Avro may not co-operate with the 14-day cooling-off period.onlyfoolsandparking said:Thanks, I've just emailed them asking to cancel. Like I said I'm not overly concerned as I'm in debit at the moment anyway so I guess I'll end up with a slightly smaller final bill paying the extra, bit sneaky of them though the instant auto-renew button imo.In any event, I would be surprised if your tariff cost over a full year will have increased by a hefty 56% even if the DD has increased by that much.Paying the extra will, as you suggest, reduce your debit balance by the end of your existing contract.

I haven't changed tariff (or have I?) I have renewed, is that different? but if that is true what you say about Avro not seeing it as a 'switch of supplier' and not honoring the cooling off period would it make any difference as I would still be free to switch away from them because of their 'no exit fees' policy.Consumerist said:

I did notice on the renewal pack that (and this is just my opinion) good news my new tariff will start on 1st March, bad news my DD increases 21st January. My existing contract ends on 21st Feb so they want to increase my payment a month earlier it would appear?
On the 56% increase I think the £94 DD was probably underestimated and not based on my actual usage or maybe my usage has gone up (Lockdown etc), they could have increased it but didn't bother, I always submit readings on time so they know my actual usage but as I said they didn't increase DD, oh well I will see what the reply is and take it from there I guess.0 -
You haven't renewed to the same tariff so you have requested a change to a new tariff and Avro may not allow a cancellation under the 14-day cooling-off period for a switch to a new supplier. It's not clear to me whether you will be able to switch to a new supplier before the new contract has started.onlyfoolsandparking said:I haven't changed tariff (or have I?) What this shows is the value in having - or not having - a consumer friendly customer services dept even if to get this means having to switch to a supplier costing a few £££'s more in the rankings.Telegraph Sam

Very interesting this! Just came in for a browse as changing gas and leccy used to be easy and now it seems it is not so for various reasons.
Anyway, i was on something called Simple and SuperFlow and reluctantly bit the bullet on Boxing Day and went for Simple and SuperPremium. DD is taking a bit of a hike from £75 to £90 but i think i was on the lowish side anyway. Certainly 2 kids in the house left to their own ''devices'' during the first lockdown did nothing to help my electricity usage.
As others have said i personally don't like changing at this time of year however i seem to have got away with it a bit here reading some of the comments. Take the hit for a few months and hopefully if something with a similar price or better comes along i'm outa here because my gut, and this is purely personal, is wanting away from here. The lack of CS, which is certainly understandable to an extent at the moment, is leaving me twitchy.
By the by what is it with these comparison sites now??...they're all over the shop. Need to be a lot more careful before committing these days it seems!!0 -
I think, with Avro, you have to accept that competitive pricing comes at a cost in terms of customer service. If you go in with your eyes opened by threads like this then you can make an informed choice. I don't think that other, more expensive, suppliers are much better.

I am switching to Avro on the 25th Jan from failed YE SoLR'd to SP,
Big reason switching to Avro was a competitive rate and the ability to switch away without an exit fee, using them as a holding place so if/when prices fall spring summer I can move without cost
But will say have used CS a few times and always got good service from knowledgeable staff0 -
DD is never a good indication of the value of a tariff. Scottish Power tried to keep me by saying that even though their fuel would be £2 a month more expensive than Avro, they would set the DD £3 a month lower.johnbhoy70 said:DD is taking a bit of a hike from £75 to £90 but i think i was on the lowish side anyway.

I know!! I have never used it. I know my annual usage for both. I'm assuming however that Avro's increase will be a fair reflection as i'm already as existing customer and i think they're basing this on the expected annual figures they provide on each bill. Must admit i haven't checked though but i don't think they'll be too far away. I'm not much in debit to them so think with wholesale increases and increased usage i mentioned above they'll not be far away.phillw said:

By the way....i've personally never had a problem with them and think this will be my 3rd/4rth tariff. I've never really needed CS mind you. They've always emailed renewal packs when i've done it through the website. Only thing is they're slow to respond but i don't think they're unique in that respect at the moment.
ps- if i really hunted between the comparison sites i could maybe knock a few quid off this new Avro one but not a lot. It would probably mean going with 2 separate suppliers who i've never heard of to be honest and it's just not worth the potential grief for me. The last time i left the big 5 was a good few years ago when i went with the Co-op and i got out there sharpish. They were in no way ready at that time.0 -
Good luck to you, but octopus would be vastly more expensive to me , even with £50 off.0
