  • Disappointed last year by Avro. I switched to them in August 2017. I switched from them in September 2018 (last year) to get a betetr deal. A couple of weeks before leaving they increased my direct debit, even though they knew I was leaving and I was in credit by a small amount. I complained about this by email to no avail. To add insult to injury, they then did not refund my balance. I emailed a couple of times to no avail. Other things intervened and I did not chase again. They still have £58 of mine from a year ago. Reminder to self - chase this again and make a complaint.
    Annoyingly, their price is not too bad this year but wont be using them again - matter of principle.

    Looking to change supplier and came across Avro on CEC their offer looks good but CEC states;

    "Avro Energy takes direct debits in advance, so your first payment will be taken 21 days after applying to switch".

    However the Avro www site states;
    "Your first payment will be on the 12th day after signing up".

    Seems CEC is out of date and Avro are now even more keen to take payment before supply. Not sure what to make of that i will think on.......
    I can confirm that they do take money round about the 12th day after signing up.

    Seems to me that you do have to have money in the bank to be able to take advantage of these cheaper deals which seems unfair on the less well off. For me, Avro have taken £99 a few days before Angelic will take their DD which they have just raised to a ridiculous £149. Luckily I can afford to play their games but many can't.

    I've just switched (28th August sign up) , first dd is 8th Sept so 12 days ....but just thought ,that is within 14 day cooling off window...so a last minute change of mind is going to cost!!
  • Avoid Avro, I am currently stuck in limbo between them and my old supplier Eversmart. You cant get anyone on the phone and they dont reply to emails or support tickets. My feeling is they are about to go pop. :mad:

    What do you mean by stuck in limbo. Can you give more details?

    They are known for poor customer service. That isn't new.

    People ought to be aware the reason why OFGEM gave Avro a new customer ban was due to their non conformity in signing up fully to the Smart Meter "readings by WiFi". It has nothing to do with bad customer service....

    Actually, it's not WiFi: the temporary ban was because Avro hadn't become a user of Capita's Data Communications Company (DCC) which provides smart meter connectivity in the north. Absolutely nothing to do with bad customer service.

    Still trying to get my credit back. It seems they send the money over on the Friday after issuing final bill. That then takes ten days. Final bill took 6 weeks. I left them in June.

    Glad to be shot of them. I hope they go under.

    I now have a two year fixed and nice new smart meter with EDF. No more pestering for readings.

    I moved to EdF, too. The only downside to me was the significant early exit fee. Having been with EdF before, though, I guessed that compensation for their incompetence would cancel that out.

    And so it came to pass - only weeks after they took over my supply. Multiple fibs by EdF versus my screen capture of every step of the online account setup process...:)
