  • Switch from Sainsbury's was fine and have had no complaints regarding reading my meters, I get the text reminding me to reply with my meter reading each month, however I have never managed to speak to any one, any queries has to be done by email.
    Other niggles are;
    No plans for smart meters
    I am in credit by £191 so I thought I would claim it back so I sent an email asking for a refund, got a reply back saying they would respond in 5/7 days, got another email after 7 days saying my request has been passed to another department and they would reply in 10/15 working days, what's the problem? I asked for my money back which I am entitled to so why is it taking so long

    Companies such as Avro that offer low rates can only do so by having low staff numbers and customers that stay in credit. So I don't mind that I have a credit of £190 (on a DD of £105) going into winter. By the time it gets to April my credit should be £20-30. So I would have lost about £1 or £2 pound in lost interest but have gained at least £100 because of the low tariff.

    If you don't mind the time delay in contacting Avro by email, having accepted that telephone contact is at best pot luck, and you manage your account carefully by always supplying readings monthly and monitoring your balance/direct debit, then they are competitive. But you do pay in advance, as with many smaller suppliers.

    It took me about a month to get my DD reduced by a small amount, due to them referring it to other departments and taking typically a week to reply to emails. I left them for a comparable tariff with EDF, who I had been with before and had good customer support experience with. There was disagreement with the final readings suggested by the third party regulator from both Avro and EDF (I had supplied my starting readings to EDF) and they eventually agreed to use my readings, but still Avro screwed that up by using their own estimate. It did finally get sorted by EDF, whose online chat system is far superior to exchanging emails, seems to operate 24/7 and you can easily take a copy of the conversation for your records. The people you get are obviously not UK based or native English speakers and you may have to repeat things slightly differently to be sure they understand, but it works IME.

    I did get my small credit balance (even after a few days on Avro's standard tariff as the switch took me past my end of contract) refunded in a reasonable time once the final reading was sorted out. Plus, Avro did stop my DD payments as soon as they knew I was leaving. I did enjoy a month's holiday in payments as EDF take it in arrears - the flip side of switching suppliers with different payment requirements. :)

    I would only go back to Avro if they were significantly cheaper than more established suppliers and then only because I do carefully monitor my usage and forecast my own cost, adjusting the DD if I see necessary, to aim for close to zero at the end of the contract.

  • Switched from Breeze energy in 2018 because they wanted a £80 increase.

    Avro have been very good, no real reason to contact them, but the once I had a query a 2-3 day wait for a reply was sufficient for the urgency of my query.

    Submitting meter readings once a month takes less than 5 minutes.

    I have renewed to their Simple and SuperSave tariff for a second year on their past performance I'm happy.

    Shell Energy Retail Limited, formerly First Utility, guys and girls, in Sutton, Surrey, often stop me in the street and ask me to see if I can get a better energy deal?

    They are very confident they can beat any deal :)

    I'm with Avro and on the Simple and SuperSave tariff :) and it's great fun to watch them squirm :oand confess I have a great deal, and they can't better it :):D

    I joined Shell back in April when they were neck-and-neck with Avro (price-wise). Since then Shell have priced themselves out of the market for me.

    Looking to change supplier and came across Avro on CEC their offer looks good but CEC states;

    "Avro Energy takes direct debits in advance, so your first payment will be taken 21 days after applying to switch".

    However the Avro www site states;
    "Your first payment will be on the 12th day after signing up".

    Seems CEC is out of date and Avro are now even more keen to take payment before supply. Not sure what to make of that i will think on.......

    When I was with Utility Point, they took their first payment on the day my supply started. Most smaller supplier take the first payment, either on the day of supply, or very near.

    The savings they make are, at least, passed on to the customer in reduced energy charges. We can't have it all ways - although some expect it.

    If you don't like the way Avro charges then find another supplier who will be more than glad to charge you handsomely for it.

    Real bad tendency for some on this board to get snappy for no reason these days i notice, never use to be like that.

    It was an observation correcting the CEC statement as a grown up i am quite capable of making my own mind up but thanks for pointing out the blindingly obvious.
