. . . However they have erroneously attempted to bill me for 400 gas units in one month that I have not used, in fact I have never used gas since I moved in.
Was your latest statement actually headed "Final bill".

I had something similar. A new statement appeared online which seemed to be based on estimated readings. I sent Avro an email asking them to confirm whether it was a Final Bill and a few days later got an email from them to advise that my "Final bill" was available online. The estimated readings had disappeared and the readings agreed with the opening readings used by the new supplier.

  • Yes indeed, the title is "Your Final Gas & Electricity Bill"

In that case it's probably their latest ruse to delay payment of any credit refund for as long as they can.

When I chased payment of the credit balance on my "Final Bill", I got an email saying it was not actually my final bill as it used estimated reads and not the agreed transfer reads. It then went on to say the transfer reads given by the independent body who handles these were less than my two previous reads provided, so it had been passed to their "disputed reads" team. The gas read was indeed nonsense. The new supplier queried it as well and has decided to go with the read I gave them, and inform Avro that they were using that figure.
So, now Avro have reason to delay my final "final bill", and hence my refund.

Let's just suppose they go out of business with their current ban on new customers. What will happen to my final bill and refund then?

I shouldn't worry of course, OFGEM will sort it out. :rotfl:

coldin, does that Final Bill include readings classified as type "F"?
  • Yes, there is an Estimated number labelled "E" and one below it labelled "F"

    I didn't provide either
  • Is this true? I gave my new provider readings which do not match up to the ones Avro are now using to charge me...
When you switch to a new supplier your opening meter reads are automatically uploaded onto a national database to be verified by an industry regulator. These are then passed to us so that we can close your account, and back to your new supplier so that they can open your account on the same reads. This ensures that you are not billed for the same energy usage twice.

Funny thing is, I owe them :) So they can delay all they like, suits me!

When I left BG for Avro, BG used the smart meter (they installed them) readings for the final readings but the industry regulator came up with different (slightly lower) values. Avro used those and assured me I would not be paying for the same energy twice. Of course, the meters had reverted to being dumb by then. I told them I was being billed twice and showed them BG's final bill to prove it. To their credit, Avro adjust my starting readings to match the final ones used on BG's bill, when technically BG were wrong to use the actual smart meter readings when the regulator came up with something else!
Now I've left Avro for another supplier and the regulator has screwed up the actual readings I gave the new supplier, so they and Avro have raised a dispute on them, delaying my final bill and the credit I will be owed...

Though it took a second e-mail, I have now got my credit back after waiting until the end of a working week, plus 10 working days as they state. £100+ back.
