Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

I registered my Hotpoint dryer for the recall back in November and just as I was thinking of chasing it up a couple of weeks ago, I got a call from them saying an engineer could come out this week. He arrived yesterday and finished the job in about 30 minutes. I will be using my dryer for the first time since the "fix" this weekend so I hope all is OK!
He turned up in a saloon car with a lot of back panels on the rear seat so I assume they have had to take on extra engineers to get this sorted. I'm glad mine didn't have to wait too long as the dryer is in the garage and I didn't fancy sitting out there whilst it was in use! What goes around comes around.....I hope!0 -
Hotpoint told me I'm looking at May to get my dryer fixed. However they did offer an upgrade but since my dryer was fairly new and more expensive I declined. Let's hope the new improvements actually work0

We only recently identified our Hotpoint dryer as being effected.
Anyhow, we only bought it nearly 2 years ago for nearly £400. I personally, would rather be given store credit (for example, Currys) to put towards buying another brand of tumble dryer - that way everyone can replace their appliance as they see fit, and no one is actually dealing with cash as such.
I've yet to hear when they'll get round to modifying ours - probably September at the current rate!0 -
Our drier conked out midweek, and I paged Indesit for a possible repair & fix - seems my machine (aged 13 mo old) isn't up for a fix til November but I got an offered £99 special.
Since we got the belt replaced locally, the machine should have worked, but it's now not heating up (& our local chap *may* be able to fix it). We may yet take them up on that £99 special, even if it takes 3 weeks to arrive... (Honestly. You either need the thing or you don't. A three week delay?! Daft!)0 -

The problem with this sort of suggestion (and providing money in general) is how much would be reasonable?
For argument sake let's say the modification costs Hotpoint say £30, are you going to be happy with £30 store credit? Can't buy much with that.
Okay, instead they offer you market value for your 2 year old dryer, which is what? £80 will you be happy with that?
For reference of how I arrived at that value - the table below shows expected value depreciation of white goods year by year from the date of sale;

I think the current options repair or replace are perfect because they generally leave out room for argument.
As soon as money is involved an awful lot of people have a "how much can I get" mentality and will just be completely unreasonable about it.0 -
Registered my tumble dryer which I've had since 2010 just after Christmas and got email yesterday (20th Feb) advising engineer will be with me in July!
I was offered new appliance for £59 Hotpoint TVFS83CGP (vented) or £99 Hotpoint TDWSF83BEP (condenser) if I preferred. Have yet to reply back as thought I'd do a bit of reading up first.0 -

What I would like to see though is a no cost replacement for people with machines still under the one year warranty.0 -

Ok so I call them this morning (less then 24hrs from the email they sent me) only to be told repair date has been further delayed to October!
The young lass was unable to explain why some customers are being asked to pay and others not and why some are given upto 4 models to choose from whilst others have 2. She has suggested I contact Hotpoint via web to see if I can get any answers. I'm not holding my breath....0 -
Got a call last week, they're coming to sort out dryer on Tuesday. Apparently they're going to fit a new back panel.0

I registered my dryer for repair in December. I got an email yesterday saying it won't get repaired till August. They have offered me a white hotpoint dryer for the price of £99. Unfortunately my dryer is silver to match my kitchen.
I also want to know why some people are getting free replacements or for a £59 charge. How can the do different offers?0
