I'd still place a bet, since I have not heard this news!

Well, that is presuming we're talking about the same one :D Have only heard of the one happening though, this one:

Tbh it would be easy to overlook them saying its not an affected model. Its just one sentence buried in a sea of text about how dangerous they are.

This thread has several examples of you being off hand and totally dismissive of other people's take on this saga.
Just accept that not everyone agrees with your approach.
    Pot, kettle etc...

Perhaps it would be helpful if you could actually quote these examples?

So you go on like Hotpoint are the devil incarnate and constantly slate them on here and pick fault with the reasonable advice offered to other posters by myself and several others, but all is well because you now have a shiny new machine?

This is a bit of an over reaction isn't it - I never said you couldn't post to the thread? and I certainly haven't claimed to be an 'expert'.

All I'm saying is some of your posts aren't exactly helpful towards the discussion and sometimes you're picking fault with advice which is perfectly reasonable in the real world for the rest of us still waiting for repair/replacement.

I shared my experiences, I didn't come to brag about getting a new machine, which I only got after the modification went wrong, and only when it took two letters to Hotpoint to chase them up - otherwise I would probably still have a defective unusable modified machine.

What I did note was that my initial post was picked to pieces (as I note others who shared their experiences posts were) because I refer to SOGA in a letter sent to Hotpoint, and how this was so wrong and giving people the wrong information / impression etc.

I actually don't care anymore, I'm done with this thread and petty rows. Just heard my best friend is in A&E, sedated after a major stroke...
  • I have neither the time nor the inclination to pick through the many comments.
You even admit that you keep repeating yourself with the same advice, so why carry on posting unless you have nothing more to add?

To be fair there was good reason for that (and repeating it). Simply for the fact that I didn't feel it was fair to give people the impression that firing off SOGA/Legal threats to the wrong company was a logical way forward and as the other poster stated, could ultimately end with financial loss - therefore I feel it was the right thing to do to bring this up.

Aside from that I ultimately agreed with with the poster that a letter is the best way forward.

I don't deny that I've called a few people out for being totally unreasonable, i.e. people who have rejected a repair and rejected a replacement machine and are now locked in a stalemate with Hotpoint as they want something they're simply not entitle to (full refunds on a 3-5 year old machine etc...). A harsh approach is needed with these people as the only people they're inconveniencing is themselves.

The advice I have posted is real world advice and hopefully some will find it useful, much better than the usual slush that gets posted here which is helpful to nobody "OMGZ Hotpoint r so terrible" (neither of you have done this but it does happen).

There has been another death involving a Tumble Dryer in October 2014, Doug McTavish although it has never been confirmed it was a Whirlpool etc. model. So two deaths in 16 months from faulty dryers.

Perhaps worth noting that they didn't have any smoke alarms in the property.

Doesn't make it any easier for their families (was two deaths - doug and bernie) but could perhaps serve as a reminder to those here that something we usually give no thought to can literally save your life and encourage us all to install them/check the batteries more regularly.

We've just had our £99 Hotpoint Condenser Dryer TDWSF 83B EP UK delivered this morning, and it's fine. Some people have been concerned about the depth, it sticks out no further than the Indesit it replaced, our worktops are the standard 600mm and the only thing that protrudes slightly is the door, the machine front is almost level with the draws in the kitchen units, my wife reckons the old one stuck out further due to the protruding knob on it...this only protrudes out from the work top by a small amount, it looks perfectly fine.

It's quieter that our previous one too, it's a different sort of sound, this seem to blow more air, as that's all you can really hear, it obviously makes some noise, but well acceptable, and AIS probably quieter than the previous Indesit model.

Lastly it seems to work better too, drying clothes faster, so personally if your drier is a few years old I think their £99 / £59 deals are good value, and one would be silly not to take them up on the offer.
Some have said the replacement looks less attractive, due to the round door, to me it doesn't look too bad at all, at the end of the day it's a tumble dryer which goes in the kitchen out of the way, with it's display it probably looks better IMO. Overall, I'm well satisfied, the 2 guys who delivered were pleasant and friendly, so well done Hotpoint, I have no complaints, and IMO £99 well spent.

It looks like the door can be swapped over, but there's no mention of this in the paperwork, so I need to search for more info, as looking at it, it definitely looks like the door can be reversed, even though a couple have said it can't. Ours would be better if I can swap the door to the other side.

FWIW, the old model was the Indesit IS70C that supposedly was afflicted with the excessive fluff problem, but in fairness, when this issue was raised last year I removed the one side panel to unplug the heater, and removed the rear heater panel just to check it, I used to repair washing machines for a living so I'm quite conversant with these things, and there was no fluff at all worth speaking off. This was the first time I had removed the panels for checking in the 6 or 7years we've had the dryer, so it's obvious that NOT all are affected, it likely depends on the environment in which it's used. However I thought as it over 6yrs old, why not take advantage of the cheap £99 replacement, which by the way is brand new, and not refurbs.

Don't get too hung up on what anyone says on this (or any) forum. We are all faceless anybodies hiding behind our anonymous user names. Post your experiences and opinions and read those of others, making of them what you will and ignore any comments which are worthless to you (and there will inevitably be some). Hope your friend is ok.

She's not but thank you, she's in ICU sedated and despite reducing the sedation she's not coming round. They are doing another brain scan later.
  • My friend took the option of having a new condenser dryer for £99.

When her old one was collected, it had a large label slapped on it which read that the dryer was a model that had been "Recalled".

So much for Currys argument with me that this is not considered a recall.
