  • Having a lazy day here. Helped DD2 sort out some stuff to go to the house. His mum and step dad are around this weekend and seem to be organising a lot of things...

DD2 is not particularly appreciating all the 'help' with the organisation. I am staying away! Particularly unpopular was a comment about they won't be long in this house. I think they need to be left to get on with it so they can enjoy their first house.

I have been enjoying a lot of sport on TV this weekend. We watched the big fight last night, and have today switched between the tennis and the F1. I don't normally watch the F1, but when the tennis got too tense it was a bit f a refuge. Note w watching West Ham - well you can't have everything...

Starting to get nervous about the hospital tomorrow...

Sister coming to stay tonight, so I had better go and make up the spare bed..

I'm shredding, juggling washing and planning for the week ahead. I'm hoping to get 90% if not more of the Christmas shopping done on Thursday so I need proper "this shop for this" lists rather than a general "this this and this" list. I also need to plan meals. I'm hoping to start painting my window tomorrow, but other decorations won't be going up until the 9th at the earliest due to work. I only have the 2nd, 9th-13th with nothing at all planned until the 18th when DD breaks up. Then apart from work on the 21st which hopefully will just be a delivery for me to put away, I have nothing else for the rest of the month until I find out when DD is going away for new year (usually boxing day). I can already see the dates that are currently free being filled with customers asking me to deliver another nights rather than the 8th.

Just remembered I need to fill in a trip form and write DD a cheque for school tomorrow. I love the fact that the kids get a reward trip each term for good behaviour/attendance and the parents get to pay for it! Only another 4 after this (no summer one in year 11 but there is the prom to pay for!) then she'll be in 6th form and I don't think they go on the trips.

TD just shouted that it's finished so I best go deal with that while the shredder has another break.

Back upstairs again having checked presents; to our surprise we seem to have everything (don't be too impressed; we're a small family) bar something for MIL and we know what we're getting her. Anything for my mum is priority to wrap, as we're having "Christmas" with her next w/e on our IOW trip and won't see her till Jan after that. Would be an advantage to get brother and SIL's wrapped and taken to Mum's next week, as they are with her for Xmas day; however if other activities get in the way, we will probably see them up here before Xmas.

Next on my list is write a letter to the boy we sponsor in India. It is always difficult - after all, how interesting can the life of two 50+ year olds in Hertfordshire be to a teenage boy in India? He's now 17 and we've been writing/sponsoring since he was 11. The friend who runs the school charity is adamant that the children enjoy any letters sent to them. I am so conscious of how much we have, both in material things and opportunities, compared with them; it seems crass to talk about what holidays we've been on or practically anything we do. Oh well I can but try.

Then if I manage to get ingredients checked for Xmas pudding, items checked for Xmas wreaths and clothes mentally checked for next weekend plus a bit of report writing done, I'll be happy.

.....and I'm not threatening any reindeer or elves; our tree and any decs never go up till at least 12th Dec and never come down until 12th night (Jan). I'm resisting playing any Xmas music at home for a week or so, although I may take my adored Annie Lennox Xmas CD to play on the way to IOW.

Similar here although outside lights sometimes up earlier depending on how the weekends fall. Have got the lights down from the loft to test this week at some point.

Frustrating bitty day here with very little achieved.

Need to do some bits on here now and finish off dinner for DS2 and I and then I have school shirts to iron and DS's bed will need remaking once the stuff is dry - may need finishing in the TD.

CY all the best for your horse-piddle visit tomorrow.

I'm another one not threatening any reindeer or elves; I shan't bother about decs unless Mr LW decides he wants them up; and I'm keeping shtum in the hope that he won't think about it.;)

We've finally had our meal - veggie toad in the hole - and I've made "strapple" crumble and a carrot'n'orange cake.

Btw, in case anyone's interested, Mr LW yesterday celebrated his 10th anniversary of starting work at his present job.:D
He has mentioned that they're developing some sort of automated application to do most of what he currently does, so they may not want him for much longer - in which case he'll seriously consider retirement. After all, he's 66 next Saturday, so will find it hard to get another job that he'd enjoy doing.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
