  • Well it's payday for me today and I've paid a big chunk off British Gas. I've listed the debt as one but it's actually a combination of gas and electric... or at least it was until this morning :j
For the first time in about five years I owe British Gas NOTHING for my electric. Ok ok I still owe them over £680 for Gas but I'm allowed a little celebration aren't I?!

Also got another £40 paid off Focus woo hoo!

This is a great challenge. It's really keeping me motivated. I'm going to have a tight month because I paid so much off the BG bill but at least I know that from the beginning and can budget for it.

  • Woohoo today I have manged to clear 2 out of the 3 debts! Next account has been cleared and Lloyds tsb(although I have left £1.79 on there as T&C are that there is a balance on there to keep it open) not sure whether to clear it and cancel or not as it has been my emergencies credit card with it being 11.8%? Anyway I did put my barclaycard credit card as my third debt to clear but as it is still on 0% I am going to aim to pay off the same amount off of my MBNA cc which is at 3.9%. So £600 to go!

I have had a head start really though as I have closed down my online business so a lot of the money has come from that. But then a lot of the debt was from it as I was using cards ect to buy stock:o I have sold £400 worth of my own stuff on ebay the last 2 months. It's amazing what you can find lol!

Keep up the good work everybody!:D

  • Well, I did a boot sale on Sunday and made £45, which wasn't bad for 4 hours work. I've had a good clear out and found some bits to put on ebay, so hopefully I should be able to clear the Next card (145.00) pretty quickly. ;) This probably sounds a bit sad, but I found it very liberating, freeing myself of the junk (half of which probably caused me to be in debt in the first place). :o I can't imagine how liberated I will feel when I no longer have debts hanging round my neck. :T I've been in debt for about 10 years and feel as though I've wasted so much of my life.

  • Well I finally realised that I'm not going to get back to Uni until I'm out of debt and in a better financial position... so last night I put all of my textbooks on Amazon

I feel very sad because I genuinely loved the subject I was doing and loved the lovely books...and while they were still hanging about I could always tell myself 'I'll use them again soon'.

    HOWEVER- <Deep breath>

By selling the books I will hopefully make quite a dent in one of my debts. By making a dent in one I can make a bigger dent in another... and so on.

When I get debt free I can start saving money, and one day have enough to buy back all the lovely books (second hand this time naturally!) AND pay course fees.

So it's a positive step- and it's about admitting what I want. There's no point having £200-£300 worth of books sat in boxes if I'm struggling to pay my gas bill is there?

So- on a happier note- if anyone knows anybody lucky enough to be studying religious studies at uni please tell them to pop across to amazon ;)
