  • Hi again

Quite a productive day for me - got DD a storage box on wheels for her cardmaking stuff (£6 and worth every penny). Sorted it all out for her too and also made two birthday cards and two christmas cards.

Car has been through the car wash and the tank has been filled.

Did two loads of washing, hung them out then had to bring them back in 20 minutes later as my neighbour decided to have a barbecue and the smoke was everywhere.

Nelski if you want to make your brother laugh, how about putting a collage together of all those photographs that everyone hates - you know, where they are sneezing, putting food into their mouths, etc. It's a bit different from the posed shots and sure to bring a smile to his face.
ivyleaf nice to see you posting here again. You've been missed by quite a few.
DebtphobicD I have some reduced veal escalopes to use today so I will be having that with some turnip and swede mash and broccoli and carrots. I love veal but only buy it when I know how it was reared.
odds your top sounds lovely. Enjoy showing it off. :D
kyle I think DH's sisters have been a bit inconsiderate in not discussing the costs but DH might regret not turning up. Hope you enjoy yourself either way. ;)
raphael this morning, after I had re-logged in I had to start from scratch again but I know what you mean.

Off to watch Scotland being hammered by South Africa at rugby. xx

Hi, hope you're all enjoying the long weekend. :D
I had a lazy start to the day as we've all got used to being on holiday and no one is in a rush to get dressed or to have breakfast. I'll have to get the kids into an earlier routine next week in preperation for the return to school.
Dh is putting on my new cupboard doors in the kitchen as I type :j , so hopefully it might be finished by the end of the day! I think he's getting a bit cheesed off with the kitchen as I've heard a few choice words coming from it.
The girls are playing out in the road and DD2 is still loving her new bike. We had bacon and croissants for lunch and tonight's tea is hm chicken and leek pie, roasted potato chunks and lots of veg and I'll make a fuit salad for afters.
    Have a good evening!

    Afternoon all

As for the free postage to the troops - I don't know anyone in the forces but would be quite happy to make up a parcel to send out to someone who'd like one - anyone any ideas on where to start on this???

    .

What a lovely thought pooky - I will ask around to see if there is anything set up:A

Quick update - wall not quite finished and unlikely to be now as I am off to a bbq which may involve a couple of glasses of vino and I do want that wallpaper to be straight. Very small amount left to do now though which is really frustrating as I had to buy a whole new roll and wont even use half of it.

Thanks so much for all your ideas for my brother - I plan to send one parcel per week to him so plenty of scope to use all your ideas. My first one is to be themed a smile in a box and I have bought the following:

    Viz mag
    Hob nobs
Book - Marley (the dog one)
Waynes World DVD (£2 from Asda!)
Some coffee shot things (thanks Mrs M)
    English Breakfast tea
    Some lynz shower stuff
and a bottle of old spice (which was dead cheap but i think he will smile at cos he normally wears the most expensive stuff going!!)
    Mini pringles

will be doing the photo idea next I think thanks anniebooklover:j
  • Evening all,

Hope you have all had a wonderful bank holiday weekend so far.

We took the kids out today to sundown valley adventure land as hubby managed to wangle free tickets from work again, but only managed half a day as it was just too hot (26 degrees)!! Thats one thing i hate about this pregnancy lark i am usually a sun worshipper and at the moment cant stand it.

The kids had a great time though and with the free tickets and taking our own picnic it cost us nothing. Bonus.

Hubby has only informed me today that he can also get free tickets to the cinema whenever we want them!! We never go because i think it's a waste of money but the chance to go free should surely have been mentioned a year and a half ago when he got his first promotion!! Men :rotfl:

I've spent the rest of the day trying to catch up with dreaded housework, have gutted the kitchen, lounge, hallways and stairs, both bathrooms and the little ones room. I'm feeling quite pleased with myself overall but know it will probably be a week before i feel like doing anything else.

Penelope - you look fantastic, any chance of seeing the end of night photos? they are always interesting to compare the b4 and afters!

Julia, good luck and fingers crossed for you.

Mrs mx - huge hugs to you and dd

Alibob - hope your dad fully recovers quickly

Gingham - glad to hear you are feeling better.

Hugs to anyone i've missed that needs them, and wishing you all a warm sunny, kids (including hubby) behaving themselves, stress free bank holiday weekend.

    Leigh xx
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56
  • Supper turned out to be bacon omlettes and salad rather than liver and bacon, we had a bag of lettuce that looked a bit sad so decided we should eat that..........duly done............so will be having the liver tomorrow, just one of the very few occasions I will not cook a 'proper' sundy supper....give myself a bit of a break.

This afternoon I finished the last 2 runners, so thats most of the Christmas presents done..............just need to think of something for my daughter, might do her a wall hanging...........need to have a look at some books for inspiration!!!!!!!!

OH is just watching the Tattoo, we used to go to the dress rehersals most years, got tickets through a friend, mind you some years it was pretty dreich, cold and wet, you needed to wrap up well, we used to take plastic dustbin bags and sit in them if it got very cold, it would not be the first time I have used one as a rain coat either!!!!!!
September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

    Tesco £57.13
    Petrol £10.00

    Evening all,

Very busy to-day, doing very little...took €100 from atm and spent: €18 Holland and Barratt; € 36 Monsoon 70% off sale;€ 35 lunch for OH, DD4 and me....€11.00 left. This was from gardening, mad and clothes budgets so was covered and I enjoyed the 'splurge', so feeling rather good about the whole day...no gardening, no washing, ironing, cleaning or cooking done, feel rather wicked about that but enjoying the feeling!!

Weather still dry here but not sunny as it was yesterday, quite warm, should really water my geraniums which I transplanted into bigger pots the other day and left in greenhouse until I find something pretty in which to stand pots in porch.

Pen Pen...don't you look well..love the hair, too much of a wuss to do anything like that myself.

GinghamRibbon, glad that you are feeling better, take it easy and get a playpen...I'd have died without mine when I had four children under four...

Oh and I will just pick at cheese, olives etc if feeling hungry later on...'lunch' was at 4.30 so no chance I will cook at this time on Saturday.

Hope that all who are away on holiday have a good time, regardless of weather.

Hugs to all in need or want

Smoky and Ivyleaf, nice to see you back.

Anniestar, Queenie and Tooties hope that you are all feeling ok

Love to all, hope you have a nice bank holiday weekend in UK...we had ours the first weekend in August and I am of course, jealous now...something called cake and eat it syndrome I think its called.

At last.... i have found the recipe...i was begining to think i was imaging things:confused:

And even better is it will keep in an airtight tub for up to 2 months :T and doesnt break up easily, so should travel well:T

    BANANA GINGER PARKIN

    PRE HEAT - 160C/325F/GAS 3
    GREASE AND LINE A 18 X 28CM OR 7 X 11" TIN

    SIFT
    200g/7oz plain flour
    2tsp bicarbonate of soda
    2tsp ground ginger

    then stir in
    150g/5oz medium oatmeal

    melt in a saucepan
    4tbs dark muscavado sugar
    75g/3oz sunflower margerine
150g/5oz golden syrup - and stir into the flour mixture

spoon into the lined tin and bake for about 1hr...until firm to touch, allow to cool in the tin

I may have to make one of these next week..mmmmm but i think i will freeze the pieces, not in case it goes off - but in case i eat it :o

  • My lasagne went down pretty well but it was very filling. DD's cookies not so good- DH was very mean and offered a tenner for the first to finish, then started to laugh like a maniac and screamed " my God , they'll deserve it."

Smokeybabe I think the sloes need the frost before they are ready - We certainly dont pick them till about October time.

Hi there, I was following this recepie - http://www.liqueurweb.com/sloe.htm and intended to freeze them as stated. However having read your post and investigated further on the net, I will start today's lot after freezing and will pick some more later in the year after a frost. This will ensure that when ready we can have a taste test of both and I will let you know which is best. ;) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We have had a good day today, the cloud I have been under for the last couple of months seems to be lifting and I am feeling a lot better. I still have bad days but they are getting further away from each other.

We visited the abandoned orchard in our village and scumped? 2 carriers full of plums, the apples and pears are about a month away but look lovely. I also got half a carrier of nuts from the woods , these are just turning brown and I will dry them out in the sun over the next few days. There is a huge crop up there but most of it is still not ready yet.

My house is clean, washing done and a nice cold lager in my hand - perfect.
