It's a bit silly to compare this to WW2. The scale isnt remotely similar in the UK at present.

true, however my point was that it was a different type of war then as the enemy could generally be easily identified..

I agree and that does present a unique set of problems. Hopefully there are relatively few people that are prepared to put on a suicide vest and go shoot up people watching a rock concert or having dinner. I'd hope so.

It's not only whether there are a significant number of people willing to blow people up, but the general 'supporting'attitudes' in the community.
A bit like the IRA bombing and killings, not many were actually motivated to bomb and kill but a great number were sympathisers and unwilling to condemn.
How many prominent Muslims were prepared to say 'Je suis Charlie'?
  • Whilst I am absolutely awed by the general outpouring of sympathy and support since Friday evening, I can't understand why the same didn't happen after the Russian plane got blown up, or Beirut or any of the other atrocities that have taken place before that - lives aren't worth any less or more because of nationality or religion.

I don't think it's that hard to understand.

It is more proximate - it's simply nearer. News coverage is that much easier than in Sinai.
It is more familiar - many people will have been to France, possible even know people directly affected .
It is more analogous - France is a more similar society, meaning if it can happen there, it is evidence it could happen here.

That's just the way human minds work. If you visit Islamic web forums (which I did a few times over the years, out of interest) you will see they have their own focus on news that is close to them. Same for Fox news in the US.

What it actually isn't is a judgment on how much the lives matter.

    Poland already have.

"We'll accept (refugees only) if we have security guarantees. This is a key condition, and today a question mark has been put next to it all around Europe,"

Not sure what guarantee you can give?

The UK refugees (who are only taken from the refugee camps) have been vetted by the UN to see that they haven't committed war crimes and are not regular criminals. They are then further vetted by the UK.

Seriously, sickened by the left in the UK which have spent all summer suggesting that the Conservative Party are racist and heartless for trying to protect us.

Sorry, are you forgetting Ed miliband telling cameron and obama that he did not want britain to kill terrorists in syria?

You've got that wrong. The vote was a vote about whether to bomb Assad and his army not terrorists.

I love animals. They are my passion in life, especially my three dogs! Animals never ever behave the way those individuals did. The fact is there are people living amongst us who hate us. The killers of Lee Rigby were part of the same phenomenon. One thing I dont get, probably through naivety........But bombing ISIS in Syria has been going on for months and months using sophisticated drones etc. Why are they still there and able to still fight back. Why havent they been eliminated?

Because the bombing has been limited - they are only allowed to bomb when there is absolutely no chance of loss of life to civilians.
  • Massive turnout at work just now for a minute's silence for the French victims; quite moving.

IS are easy to identify. They are the remains of Saddam Hussein's army. IS is controlled by Hussein's former officers many who worked for the Iraq's Intelligence Agency - they now do the same work for IS. So all the leaders of IS are former Iraqi officers and the foreign fighters are foot soldiers.

If a commitment is made to finish of IS for good, it could be argued that it's just finishing off the West's involvement in Iraq.

Finishing of Saddam Hussein's Army/IS for good is probably where we are going?
