What about the advantages and disadvantages of a call centre? Is this in comparison to working from home?
I honestly think about interview questions too much!:mad:0 -

I have worked in call centres too and to be honest, I prefer this working at home much more. Be honest with what you think are the advantages and disadvantages - they want you to be aware of this, and know you have thought about what working from home will entail.
Advantages of call centres
There is always somebody around you that you can ask a question if your stuck. Always people around you so you don't feel your own your own .
Disadvantages of a call centre
Bosses breathing down your neck(quite literally)
Noisy work environoment
Distractions
!!!!!iness (although some !!!!!iness does goes on in private messaging in the chatrooms - but we are only human after all)
Very rigid especially with personal breaks (loo time)
Advantages of working from home
We do have the chatrooms at home where we can also ask questions and get answers very quickly.
Less 'distractions' so you can concentrate.
Don't feel lonely as the chatrooms keep you in the loop with people.
No travel or lunch expenses
Can fit it in with your family lifestyle.
Doing a 'proper' job, and getting paid, with all the associated benefits.
No -one breathing down your neck - although our team leaders are in the chatrooms encouraging us etc- it never seems as bad as in a call centre
Disadvantage of working from home
In my case - trying to ensure my dog does not bark at the wrong time - I have become a dab hand at hitting the mute button very quickly.
Similar to above, trying to ensure you are in a quiet environment - neighbours lawnmowers can be awful noisy first thing on a Sunday morning when your on a call lol as can children playing outside.
Need to be very disciplined, more so than when working in a call centre - but not anymore so than any 'self employed' person is.
Thats all I can think of for now.
Good luck:beer:Auddel0 -
That's excellent - I'm sure that post will help many people and not just me. Thanks for taking the time to write it out. :beer:0

Wildt - I can give you a brief overview of the process for objection handling (I think I can still remember it from the dim and distant past!)
You basically need to test to see if you are dealing with a real or false objection - my favourite was of testing was to ignore, if the objection was raised again then you could then question to confirm it was a real objection.
To test and objection you can ignore, ask to repeat, Then you do need to handle it, sometimes funnelling down until you reach the true objection.
Example -
Customer - 'I can't afford that'
Rep - IGNORE objection and carry on with sale
Customer - I'm sorry, I can't afford that
Rep - Tell me what it is about the cost that is worrying you (you are trying to see if it is a cost, need, time or knowledge objection)
Customer - I don't think it will be used enough to warrant the extra cost
(You then go on to handle the REAL objection, which is that the customer doesn't yet see the value in the goods or service, so you need to go back into the 'selling the product' part of your sale.)
Just remember - an objection is a buying signal -the customer is interested enough to want you to listen to them and come back with reassurance.
And keep your questioning open - don't give them the opportunity to come back with a yes or now answer until the last question 'Are you happy to go ahead with that?'
I can go into this in further detail by PM if needed. Just bear in mind, it's years since I did sales training....
And for all those hoping to be on the 7th July course - BEST OF LUCK xxx
Auddel - excellent post and very helpful. Thank you for that xx0 -
OMG 15 mins! Thanks for that Daffodil - I think I'm armed with enough information about objections now lol. I've scrubbed the whole house top to bottom to stop myself feeling nervous but now I'm sat here waiting for the phone to go:eek:
The worst bit is we've got builders here doing work outside, I've told them to be quiet but I can just see them shouting 'eh love wheres my cup of tea' half way through the call:mad: lol!
I hope it goes well for both of us, you'll be fine I know it!
I hope the line is better than yesterday. My interview is with Amy, is yours the same?0 -
Someone from teletech rang me and said not to worry about the technical assessment for now, got my interview next wednesday
very excited
Best of luck to everyone going for a job with them they seem like a nice bunch judging by the lady on the phone.
Thanks for all the help too, this threads been a life saver0 -
Mine is over! It lasted 14 minutes and I thought it would be much longer, is this a bad sign
I actually thought it went well, probably the most enjoyable telephone interview, but I'm not sure if that's because Amy was lovely and nice to talk to lol.
The only question I kind of stumped on was 'tell me about a time you've missed out something important at work eg. made a mistake'. I had not prepared for that one and messed it up.
Good luck to every one else xx0 -
No call here yet - but I'm sat chewing my nails with my phone on my knee willing it to ring!
Well done Wildt - when do you hear?0 -
:j WOOHOO - got a Job :j
Spoke to Ellen, who is so lovely. She is going to try and find me a space on the 7th July course (it is currently fully booked but she will try and come back to me tomorrow)
I'm so thrilled.
Fingers crossed for everyone else
Diane

Wow Daffodil you must have been exceptional on the phone!! I take it that means I was not successful then because Amy said I will hear from her in 2-3 days. Obviously that's not a good sign if you got offered the job right away
I'm a bit sad but oh well I tried..well done I wish you all the luck in the world and hope the job is everything you hope it to be xx0
