I am currently connected to the Internet through NTL/Virgin Broadband, it's through an Eternet connection.
Whats the difference between wireless and cable router, if you dont mind me asking?
Thanks for helping :-)
Ahhh should work then-as I'm also on Virgin and it worked for me (and at least one other Virgin person in my training group).
Thanks for the explanation Oli-I always wondered WHY that fix worked-but at the time was just pleased that it DIDI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

The key thing here is the word "Router" I wont get too technical but
at the moment you have a modem that provides your pc with a public
or direct IP address, workbooth wont run in this mode hence the error
your getting in the assessment
So the work around is connecting a router between your cable
modem and your pc
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/35433 wired version
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/48546 wireless version
ether of those will be ok, the only point of buying the wireless
version is if you have a 2nd pc like a wireless laptop that you want
to be able to share the NTL connection with.
Oh great, thanks for explaining that Oliver, and as I only have one pc and the wired router is cheaper, I think I'll go for that lol
EDIT: I went into Dixons to buy a suggested router and they said that a router wouldnt work for a work-at-home purpose unless I also bought the adopter (which goes into the back of my PC apparently) with it, which was an extra 15 quid. Is this true?0 -

Paulie,
can you try to uninstall your flash player using this remover tool
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
then reboot your pc, and using your firefox browser go back to adobe.com
and reinstall the Flashplayer again,
Then try the browser test again on the meeting place site.
Tried that, still no joy, it completes the test ok, i get 3 green ticks, then i get "connecting to server", & a green bar then i get an error saying failed to connect! The troubleshoot link takes me to a blank page!0 -

Run it on the other PC? Might be the easier solution for now and if the specs are not up to it tell Teletech you are upgrading it for the job if you get it?EDIT: I went into Dixons to buy a suggested router and they said that a router wouldnt work for a work-at-home purpose unless I also bought the adopter (which goes into the back of my PC apparently) with it, which was an extra 15 quid. Groovychick - i am in the same boat as you. have done the tech assessment over 50 times to date and still no luck. I went on the workbooth help pages (under faq) and it tells you a few simple steps to see if your ethernet is one of the non accepted ones. Apparently mine is (mine is a realtek one?) and they don't accept those. Have to get a belkin one which i found out are being discontinued so the prices are rising. Have decided to wait to see if i get the job before paying out any money. This may be the problem you are having?? There is also the chance that i could pay out for a new adapter and then find something else is wrong?? oh the joy of jobseeking lol!!0

What adaptor and why did you mention working at home? They are just trying to sell you stuff now
Yeah there probably trying to sell her a usb wireless adaptor
I would avoid places like Dixons like the plague
if you have a credit/debit card then
http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=RP614
seems the best deal if you need it fast, they will send on a
next day service for £31.58
if you don't and you have to use a shop just buy the cheapest cable router they have, PC world have a Belkin one that you reserve online and collect
in store you will get it for £32.68 then
