Hubby doesn't want to go any further with it, so I have to respect his decision to draw a line under the whole thing and forget about it.

I would persue it further if it was my problem, but I can't do anything more if he has said not to.

Becles, it is your problem isn't it? Shouldn't he also respect the fact that you have taken out this loan?

Your marriage might be fine at the moment and I'm not suggesting it won't last forever, but shouldn't you start as you mean to go on - if it was his problem why is the loan in your name only?

You have taken out a loan, so you are still in debt - this debt is absolute now because you have borrowed from somebody else, AND you are paying interest on it. If there is a chance that you can get this back, you would be crazy to just let it go! You could even argue that due to CSA error (once it is all sorted out and if proved that the debt does not exist) you have been forced into this situation and ask for the CSA to cover all costs of the loan interest. Had they done it properly you wouldn't have taken out the loan and so wouldn't be paying the debt - do you see what we are saying? Beccles, I urge you to fight this all the way. Even if you lose and you DID owe the debt, at least you know that you did EVERYTHING to ensure that the case is correct and you paid knowing that you did owe it.

He can't get decent credit in his name.

It was better for me to borrow in my name, and then I still have his wages coming in to pay for stuff, than not to borrow money and have the CSA take £101 a week off him which would have left us unable to meet our basic living costs.

Sounds like he's been lying to you, frankly.

  • I do think youre being a bit harsh on Becles. She surely is the best judge of her husband and the situation?!

I certainly understand why he doesnt want to fight the CSA - if youre not in the right place mentally for a fight then it can take over your life and make you ill!!

Sometimes it is right to let things go

Becles, sorry to hear you've had a rough time over this :(

Strapped, why on earth would her husband be lying?

If me and my OH wanted an end to countless demands for money by funding it with a loan, and his credit was shot to pieces, I would get a loan in my name if that was the only way out. (If I had a good credit history in the first place!)

The CSA are a complete shambles, they haven't got a clue what the are doing!

They have written to my ex and told him to pay £11.67 arrears and it will all be clear.

On the same day that letter was sent to him, another one arrived saying he had to pay £2447 in arrears.

I'm not suprised really that Becles and her hubby want to draw a line under it.

Of course it would be great if they got it looked into and found there had been a mistake made and received any payments back to them, but knowing the CSA, they will find another figure from God knows where and tell Becles and hubby that they still owe money.

Strapped - I asked for help and advice regarding a problem with the CSA. I never asked for opinions on my husbands character

If you have nothing helpful to say about the CSA, I'd be grateful if you didn't say anything.
