I rang up to cancel in june, telling them i had got a nightshift job and wouldn't be able to watch anything decent.
They offered me refurb sky+ box for nothing, or new one for £49.99 (which i took) Subject to a new 12 month subscription.

    Yeah...

I got their promotion letter of sky+ at £99 and free installation.

    And an 08702 number...

    ..so I said to myself:-

"Self. You can do the upgrade on-line and save a phone call".

    Hah!

Not on your life! After identifying myself as an existing customer and going for the upgrade to sky+ link I got dumped onto a page that had only one option on the list for sky+ and that was with multi-room for another £30 and oh... not mentioned until checkout time £10 a month.

I couldn't remove it from the shopping basket so bailed out.

Then went direct to the Sales part of the website and tried again. Loads of bumph about sky+ and an "upgrade now" button that just took me back to more bumph.

    Sheesh!

Round and round I go... <sigh>

So I bit the bullet and rang the number.

Lots of lovely menus and a hold music info thingy that I could barely hear.

Finally I'm able to tell someone about my woes with trying to order the offer I have on paper in front of me - and failing dismally...

..and blow me if HE couldn't give me that offer either because it wasn't listed on his screen.

So, since the call had already been quite long I asked him to transfer me directly to the contract cancellation section...

    Seven menu's later...

    ..more inaudible music (I think)...

And I get a bod who asks me why I'm canceling - so I list my tale of woes, yet again, and identify myself, yet again, and finally he too tells me he doesn't have this offer listed!

    AAARRGGGHHH.

I said I've been on-line for an hour trying to buy this offer - and it should only take two minutes; and that this phone call was probably costing more than the blasted box and that I've had enough of their rubbish support and sales and want to quit.

    NOW!

So my new sky+ box will be installed on Monday morning for a one off price of £49.

He said it would be a new PVR3 box - which might mean something to somebody.

Then when I wander over here to tell you all about it I find a lovely thread all full of it. I could have saved myself a whole lot of grief!

    And my blood pressure! :)

Oh well, all's well that ends well, as the man said :)

well yeah, just make sure when u buy get it with the cables....or if its cheap enough buy separate.

and installation???? do u mean unplugging 1 box and plugging in the other??
  • The secret is to threaten to cancel your subscription and they will give you Sky+ for a year plus the new 80 GB box for £49 including installation. If you don't get any joy from their sales team, ask to speak to the cancellation department. Please note you must sound convincing that you will cancel whatever otherwise they will not admit that this offer is available. It worked for me!

We seem to have enough with Freeview. I watch dramas, OH watches history. But, I know he would dearly love to be able to watch the indoor bowling competitions. His pal sometimes tapes them for him but does not always get it right. Do SKY do a sport only package?
