I cancelled my contract, then started a new contract in my wifes name, they didn't seem to worry and got free fitting. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

i agree i tried to get skyplus and ended up cancelling because depsite 20yrs of subscribing to full package they 'let me' cancel rather than let me have it for £49 as they are giving new customers:cool:0

Thank you for all your posts. Just got Sky+ box for £49 including installation after ringing sky and saying I wanted to cancel and go to BT vision. Worked a treat!0

I also tried threatening with cancellation having tried to get a deal on sky+.They put me through to cancellations and accepted!! What do I do now? wait it out and hope they call offering a deal or eat humble pie and reinstate my sky? Help!
Sadly I think it can be a bit hit and miss, I moved house in Jan and didn't want to pay the relocation fee, so I followed a similar script of threatening to cancel, had been with them for 2 years on full package, anyway they did the ask why, was I not satisfied etc. I told them I was very satisfied, just did not think it was reasonable to pay for relocation when I could get Virgin installed for free. So the girl said she would have to put me through to another dept (the retention dept, I thought) Guy there asked the same questions, I gave the same answers. He went ..tap tap tap.. on his key board and said thats it, your cancelled!
A month later after I have moved I notice a debit on my account for the £10 sky+ subscription, so I ring up ready for war......guy is very appologetic says it has been their screw up then asks me why I left, I explain that I was moving etc, and he is surprised that I did not get offered a deal, cut a long story short, he puts me through to another dept and in the end I get a re-installation for free.
I think maybe they randomly dump somepeople because they know this is going on, and when people hear stories about threatening to leave and actually getting dumped, some won't try.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I managed to get Sky + upgrade for Free!!
I called Sky Retentions and explained that when I was in the town centre today I noticed that there were two people selling Sky within the shopping centre and that they had a deal on which said new customer can get Sky + Free of charge.
I enquired with them regarding this and they told me that it was for new customers only, obviously not very happy with this I called Sky Retentions/Cancellations dept and explained that I wanted to cancel my subscription and I would buy it again with the Sky chap in the shopping centre.
The advisor put me on hold and went to check with her manager what she could do and she came back and said that she could offer me an upgrade to Sky + Free of charge - Brillaint!!
The way there going to do it is charge me £49.00 for the Sky + but immediately apply a credit of £49.00 to my Sky Account which will cancel out the charge.

I can confirm that threatening to cancel still works - I have just secured a free sky+ box, free istalation AND 12 months free line rental on my sky talk, by saying I was going to cancel and go to BT vision.
Also, there is no monthly charge for sky+ now.
They initially offered me a HD box for £99 with free instalation, and I reckon I could have knocked them down from that, but I didn't want to pay £10 a month for the privelidge. Besides, I reckon give it a year or 2 and they will drop the monthly charge on that too. Then it'll be time to threaten to cancel again...0
