  • To be clear, this was a fix for the "Find more posts by" function. Where is the do=process search on the forum?

We know the VBulletin search is very buggy - it's not ideal but hopefully it's something we can address in the coming year.

One problem solved (thanks) - Two still to go - The bottom one is the more important.

1)[STRIKE] Click on a username, then click on "Find More Posts by username"[/STRIKE] - NOW FIXED
[STRIKE]This is not working at all - returning "no matches" in all cases[/STRIKE]

    2) The way Advanced Search works on a User Name seems also to have changed.

Searching for posts by a particular user (eg. myself = One-Eye) I can sort the resulting threads:
    a) According to the Last Posting Date (the last post by anybody)
    b) Thread Starting Date (thread started by anybody)

Before today I could also get results:
    c) According to the Last Posting Date of the user I am searching.

In some cases a) and b) are not suitable. If I want to look at threads where a particular user has posted something in the last few days, b) is irrelevant and a) is swamped by threads where that user posted something years ago but somebody else has posted there recently.

    3) "Search this Thread" doesn't work at all

Test it on the current thread for username "fermi" or for the term "search" (or for both at the same time) - always gives "no matches".

It's part of the forum search submission code/syntax, which can also be used in a direct link if you wish.

For example in the "Search this thread" function, which is STILL BROKEN right now.

    Hi everyone,
We're rolling out a fix for this today, I'll be back in to let you know once it's done.

Can I just try to clarify something ...

This function was working fine before last week.
Sometime early last week, it became totally unuseable.
If this was caused by something your techies did, it should have been possible to simply undo what they did and put things back the way they were.
The fact that it took a week to rectify the problem rather implies this wasn't the route followed.

Also, a 'fix' (to me) means a (relatively) quick work-around to get something important working.
It is not the sort of term I would use if I had simply undone a change that didn't quite work properly the first time.
'Fixes' can (in the nature of things) have possibly unforeseen/unforeseeable consequences.
You take that on board when balancing things against the need to get things working again ASAP.

Do you now know what caused this problem to occur?
  • Because, once again, this thread doesn't seem to cover my problems and because, once again, nothing seems to be done about my problems (which I know also affect others), I've started a new thread and hope the techies/board guides/staff or someone might have a look at it.

    Link to thread.

I am having problems using the old format site with finding other posts by someone, and also using user names to find individual posts within a thread.
Some one can have posted 10 times, but the advanced search for their user name for search this thread will consistently tell me
"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

My personal conspiracy theory is that it's a mechanism to get people fed up with the old style forum and on to the new one.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Posted a new thread on that, as think comments on it are a bit lost in this one.

Expedite just means that we've gotten it pushed to the top of the list. The Tech team covers the entire site - all the guides, all the tools, Cheap Energy Club and Forum, so we all have to fight for their time! But it goes to the top if it's impacting our users directly, which this is. (It's also a pain for us in the Forum team, don't worry!)

I say 'hopefully' because I wouldn't want to say 'definitely' and disappoint everyone if it didn't happen for whatever reason. Sometimes seemingly small issues can turn into big ones, so you can never know for sure.
    Good news eh?
