What you forget is to drive an petrol car to its maximum performance you generally look like a t***, having to rev the engine and burn out your clutch (and your wallet). On an EV you can mass the throttle 100% of the time and no one batters an eye lid, and at 2p per mile you can do it as many times as you want
I'm 40-something now and long past caring what other people think of meIts far too much fun to not drive like a t*** occasionally. I like that it is rowdy and raucous - that's part of the appeal. But I appreciate that is not for everyone. This is my first performance car - I have always either had sensible cars for longer commutes or 4x4's. I'm glad I didn't have one when I was younger as I don't think I would be here now!
It would take many, many years to spend the amount on petrol that a Tesla costs over what I paid for the Scooby, particularly the bargain I got it for. Plus I can get my hands dirty and put my hand to most work required on it.
Its chalk and cheese comparing the 2 anyway and I only mentioned it in jest. The Tesla is far more luxurious and refined and I would welcome one on my driveway even at a 'slow' 5.5s 0-600 -
I was amazed to read this news....It looks like Germany is well on its way to moving to an electricity grid not dependent on traditional energy generation. What does our government do?? Slash renewable funding....What the UK ministers don't seem to have grasp is the fact the sun and wind is a FREE source of power. Once you have the initial infustructre, you don't have to keep on paying for oil/gas/nuclear.

You forgot to mention that Scotland is in a very similar position re: renewables, and holds most of the oil and potable water resources too0 -

I wasn't talking about every vehicle on the road becoming electric overnight. Stick with passenger cars, and I'll give you some light vans too, they're the only product available at the mo. And you're leaving out that vehicle for vehicle, an EV will be using less energy, you can't just transfer the number straight over.

It's a lot more than 2p per mile if you drive like that!
Don't stigmatise the 'nice cars'. That's what we should save our petrol for. People who just want an A-B car should very seriously be considering an electric. There are caveats of course, but they're suitable for so many general uses RIGHT NOW. I'm looking at you, school run mum!0 -

Or like Norway, 95% of their electricity is renewable generated, 25% of car sales now EVs (increasing year on year), whilst their biggest export is selling oil/gas to places like the UK....They must really love the current UK government and their dedication to non-renewable energy generation0 -

'Basic' Model X announced. $80,000 dollars, should come in at £59,000 UK price (same price as a base V6 petrol Range Rover Sport).
Standard spec includes, AWD, 220mile range, 0-60 in 6 seconds, full LED headlights, flacon wing doors, sat nav, powered tail gate, leather, 8 year drivetrain warranty.

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the price. We're off to California in Jan, hopefully they will have Model X in showrooms over there by than, and can get first hand experience of those doors....If we like it, may well have found our next car0 -

£2800 to make it a 7 seater and 1500 for the self drive (is this available in the UK?) are disappointing. Be interesting to see what the premium is for the larger battery (90D).I think....0 -
The 90D is $10,000 more, so probably translate to close to £67-68K. These clearly aren't cheap cars, but compared to an equivalent Range Rover, they are decent value.
AutoPilot is already available on most Tesla's sold in the UK.0 -
