Tesla Model X Ownership Costs?
I could be presauded by the Tesla Model X (launched now but you can order for delivery October next year) but am struggling to find 'cost of ownership' info. Specifically likely depreciation. Even for existing Tesla models there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there.
Then there is insurance, servicing, repairs costs etc.
I guess most peole with 70k to spend on a car don't care what it costs per mile but I do.

I don't think anyone knows about depreciation, these things are pretty new. Best guess would be 45% value retained at 3 years, which is about standard.0

£11'000 Down the drain straight out of the showroom (according to speculated prices of £65'000).
You really can't be buying one of these to "save money on fuel".“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well, that depends if they are going to buy a £65,000 car anyway.0 -
No actual price for the Model X has been announced. I nearly put down a £4K deposit to reserve one but the only model they have confirmed for production for 2016 is the 90kWh AWD version. It'll probably have a price of around £70K before options - Though even the standard car will be well specced. If you order through Tesla finance you can put down a 85% deposit and they will 'buy back' the car in 3 years time at 50% value. So on the deprecation front your looking at worse case situation of £35k over 3 years....Essentially it's ALOT of money to throw away on car!!!.....I wouldn't even worry about insurance, servicing etc, sadly it's very much a case of 'If you have to ask, you cannot afford it'
The best 'value' Tesla at the moment is a 70kWh RWD Model S, which with a referral code comes in at just under £50K. Even the base spec is loaded, and has a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds. An equivalent BMW 535i with similar performance, optioned up to the same spec comes in at £47K, so the Model S is barely more expensive....But with the BMW I'll be amazed if you couldn't get 10% off that price with a bit of haggling. With Tesla there is no discount, not a single penny. Though I got the impression the sales guy I chatted to could have been persuaded to throw in some key rings if I ordered one at the end of the test drive .
The other option is a used Model S. Tesla have 33 on sale through their website, they all come with a balance of manfactures warranty (8 years) and/or 4 years used car warranty. The problem is the oldest Model S is only 12 months old, and all the used cars are loaded 85/P85 versions which cost £70-90K new. They have all dropped by about £15-20K per year but all are still £50-60K+.
I'm 100% certain I'm going to replace my Nissan Leaf with a Tesla in late 2016/Early 2017.....But which one comes down to price at the time, and how much money I want to throw away :rotfl:
I'm hoping another 12-18 months of deprecation will see a loaded P85+ come in at just under £50K, still a stupid amount of money to waste on a car, but it's hell lot better than paying £90K for a brand new one....Man maths you have to love it

Brill info thanks, we also have a leaf currently.
It is very difficult, even buying second hand there is no info on what the cars will be worth at say 5 or 8 or 10 years old. Lots of new electric cars will probably be appearing in the next few year so perhaps prices wil fall sharply given more competition (indeed even new Tesla prices may come down as battery prices fall) - on the other hand there will still be no other used 3+ year old equivalent electric cars available apart from the Tesla's so perhaps that will help their values....I think....0 -
Whats the warranty on the Tesla? Whilst under warranty it may hold its value fairly well, but once that expires any repairs maybe very costly so a large drop in value.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

£11,000 is fairly specific amount, what's brought you to that figure?0 -
The most expensive part of the Model S is the battery and motor. That comes with a 8 year unlimited miles warranty - You don't even need to 'service' it to make a claim- That's from new.
The rest of the car has a 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty.
The used cars have also a 4 year, 50,000 miles warranty.
So the earliest time your be able to buy a Model S out of warranty in the UK will be 2018 - Or a car having covered more than 50,000 miles and been sold privately. But even if you do 20K per year, it would be till late 2016 those cars hit 50,000 miles.
The Model X is compete Unknown, they still haven't started mass production in the US, I honestly cannot see RHD versions arriving till 2017. The Model S has been around since 2013, yet if you order one now, you wouldn't get it till Feburary next year, there's no way RHD Model X cars will be on the UK in 2016.0
